With Sunny talking about Baba, and Kpolina talking about Santosham, I thought it was about time I did my bit for regional films and talked about a Bengali movie - the only difference being that we'll probably never see this on DVD!!!

The movie in question is called Desh. It stars Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Sabyasachi Chakroborty (he was one of the terrorists in Dil Se if I remember correctly). It's one of the first Bengali movies I've seen to have it's own website (and a crap one at that) but i for one would like to see this movie. Do you think there is any chance of anyone releasing it, or should I just get someone to get me a VCD from India?!?!?

Check out the (poor) website - http://www.deshmovie.com

asholay-e bekaar website.

even the wallpaper images on the website aren't sharp; looks like these are vhs grab screenshots. :vangry:

i never seen any bengali movies with hindi speaking actors, if this movie comes in decent (or alteast ok) print, i will buy it. They mentioned, it has english subtitle. i guess that's burnt in the film or something.

There are a few Bengali movies with Hindi speaking actors -

Bahadur - Danny
Amar Prem - Juhi Chawla
Badnam - Neelam
Choker Aloye - Beena
Jibon Sangi - Archana Joglekar
Anutap - Raj Babbar

Obviously there are also the Hindi speaking actors who are originally Bengali:

Dhanni Meye - Jaya Bhaduri
Troyee, Tahader Kotha - Mithun Chakroborty
Biyerphool - Rani Mukherjee

A lot of the Shakti Samanta movies were also released in a Bengali version - these movies were actually bilinguals, not dubbed.

Aradhana - same title
Anand Ashram - same title
Barsaat Ki Ek Raat - Anusandhan
Aar Paar - Anyay Abhichar

I believe Nandita Das is also doing a couple of Bengali films.

I have found an online store that sells Bengali VCDs - http://www.bdbazar.com - not sure about the reliability though, and I'm not gonna spend that much on a VCD when I can get them for Rs 280 from Kolkata!

Shuman babu ekta jinish bhule jacchen apni :)

Jaya Bacchan holo prothome Ek Bangali bhodromohila :D
Abhushek holo addhek (half) bangali :D
So technically they are not Hindi speaking actors/actress per-sé

But sabyasachi Chakravarty is a 100% bong actor...
