A half-hour documentary called Shabana on Shabana Azmi will be showcased at the New York Film Festival where the noted actress and activist Shabana Azmi is to he honoured with the retro award. Dev Benegal known for English August and Split Wide Open has shot the documentary. Filmmakers Shyam Benegal, Govind Nilhani and Prakash Jha have shared the kind of experience they have had with Azmi. "I wanted them to speak not only about Shabana the actress but also person," said Benegal. But what will take the masses by surprise is the presence of Hollywood superstar Richard Gere in the documentary. Richard Gere along with Shabana Azmi has worked for the cause of AIDS victims. "Shabana Azmi helped me get in touch with him over the e-mail. We shot him in his office at Manhattan," revealed Dev.
