In Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi there is a scene where Uday Chopra and Bipasha Basu are watching Maine Pyaar Kiya on their widescreen tv. Now as far as I know both the DEi and B4U versions are not in anamorphic. Also the aspect ratio looks correct...nobody looks fat or anything? So how is it possible or is there another dvd somewhere out there?

Non-anamorphic picture can be seen correctly on Widescreen TV using appropriate settings.

I don't own a WS TV either but at the time when I was buying my DVD player for the first time, I saw some sample demos of Indian DVDs.

Watching any 4:3 TV program (Letterboxed in a 4:3 frame still is a 4:3 signal) you have an option on WS TV.

Option 1) You can watch it as 4:3 where black side bars will appear. Remember, Letterbox non-anamorphic DVD picture alrady has black bars at the top and bottom. Hence you get black bars on all 4 sides for a letterbox DVD and only the side bars for a 4:3 full screen program.

Option 2) You can crop the top and bottom portion of the picture in which case you get full width picture fully covering the WS TV height for a 1.78:1 letterbox picture. Only the black bars have been cropped this way.

In some WS TVs (early days), you did not have this option for 480p signal, but worked OK if you fed the 480i signal in case you had a progressive DVD player.
