The romantic comedy Bollywood/Hollywood has been chosen to open this year's Toronto Film Festival in September.

Organisers chose the movie, which is directed by Deepa Mehta, whose previous movies include Earth (starring Aamir Khan and Nandita Das) and Fire (starring Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das).

Bollywood/Hollywood is a perfect example of the Indian and American film industries coming together.

"I have this sort of continuing love affair with the Toronto film festival," Deepa Mehta told reporters after hearing the news. "In the past, when I've been sort of worried about what my identity is, the Toronto film festival steps forward and reminds me that I am a Canadian."
