According the latest buzz from IndiaFM, the duration for the theatrical release of Devdas for the overseas market is reduced to 2 hours 30 minutes from its original duration of 2 hours & 54 minutes reserved only for the Indian Theatrical market.

Now, from what I see, this is clearly done to boost Eros DVD sales and to fight priacy. I have a feeling that (assumingly) do to the strong acceptance of the movie in the overseas market, Eros will first release its original DVD with a duration of 2hr.30min(NO extras, and possibly Anamorphic). along aside its pirate copies. Than, at a further time period, to fight priacy, they will eventually release a special edition 2 set DVD with its original duration and plus extras.

What do you people think? Am i right, or is there another theory behind to why its overseas duration is edited from the original?

Does this mean that if I go to the local theater that plays Indian films, I will only see the 2hr 30min version? Or is that version for any American arthouse theaters that may play it?

It is very possible that the version we will get to see is gonna be the 2 hr 30 min version..... i recall aankhen had 2 different versions and we got to see the version for the international audience , so i guess they will have the same version in all the theatres for devdas as well..... i can pray that it doesnt happen as i surely would like to see the complete version of the film..... and not a version with many of the songs missing...
I somehow agree with dvd collector that this could be a marketing strategy and could be related to the forthcoming dvd... I am not even gonna pray that eros give us a decent dvd as thats something thats far fetched... they are gonna massacre this movie.......

How about the simplest explanation, they cut the films 3 hour length so that the international audience wont be bored for 3 hours, just 2 hours and 30 min now.....I for one dont think EROS is that smart to have a "marketing strategy"..... :plain:

Maybe Eros should have applied the same strategy to NTJNH and cut it to around 2 min 32 secs so it would be somewhat watchable :D . J/K :baaa:

now that devdas has been released, rumors that there is a shortened version for the overseas market have been quashed (as the duration of the film is 3 hrs and 2 minutes).

up till now, yash raj has not released the special edition k3g dvd that karan johar originally promised full of bonus features. hopefully, devdas will be chock full of goodies, but nothing can make up for the HORROR of being released and distrubuted by EROS. i just know they're going to malign this film as they've done will their past releases. what was SLB or the person who signed devdas over to EROS thinking?!?!
