Reports about Bollywood movies making the UK national film charts are now common, but Indian film music entering the British music charts is incredibly unlikely. However that may be about to change.

A.R. Rahman's hit single Shakalaka Baby, which is taken from his well-publicised musical Bombay Dreams, has slid into the UK singles charts!

In its original form, the song was featured in the Anil Kapoor / Rani Mukherjee movie Nayak. It has now been remixed with English lyrics and has been sung by one of Bombay Dream's stars Preeya Kalidas.

Shakalaka Baby managed to enter the charts at number 38 this week. Although not a high entry, it's still great news for A. R. Rahman and the team!

Shakalaka Baby in its original form was from the Tamil movie Mudhalvan, whcih was remade into Nayak (and the song was kept, but the lyrics changed to Hindi).

Still, great news - didn't have much doubt that A.R Rahman would be the first to get into the British charts. Does anyone remember Anu Malik's pathetic attempt at a English single years ago....................I thin it was called Eyes, or something stupid!!!
