Veteran actor director Amol Palekar has been selected to head the National Award jury in 2002. Palekar has been in the film industry for over three decades now. He began his career as an actor in Marathi films. His popularity as a Marathi actor paved way for Hindi offers. But it was with Shyam Benegal's Bhumika alongside Smita Patil that he made a foray into Hindi films. While Benegal's film had him in a serious roles Rajshri's Chitchor had Palekar in a light frothy role. Anmol Palekar soon began getting film offers that required him to do comic roles viz; Gol Maal, Baaton Baaton Mein and Naram Garam. Serial Kacchi Dhoop had Palekar step into television as a director. His film Kairee bagged the National Award for the Best Film in 2000. With Amol Palekar now at the helm of the National Award jury, one can look forward to non-controversial selection this year unlike the last year's fiasco. ((((Jury member and actor Mac Mohan was accused of playing favourites when cousin Raveena Tandon bagged the award for the best actress for her performance in Daman. ))))))
