The sets of Chandra Prakash Dwivedi's period film Pinjar are brilliantly rustic. Based on Amrita Pritam's novel with the same name, Pinjar is set during the Partition.

Starring Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Bajpai, the film explores the gradual attraction of a rape victim towards her rapist.

A portion of Mumbai's Film City Studio is converted into a village in pre-Independence Lahore, complete with houses, grocery and garment shops. The brick-layered, two-storeyed buildings have minute carvings on them. Cobbled streets wind through the village.

At the entrance of the sets, you are greeted by giant earthen jars with Urdu inscriptions. These, you are told, were for the public -- one for the Hindus and the other for the Muslims.

Pakistan flags, slogans, Urdu inscriptions and pictures of [founder of Pakistan] Mohammad Ali Jinnah are seen at regular intervals.

Rediff.com brings you glimpses of art director Muneesh Sappel's sets for Pinjar. Click here for the slide show.

Net Effect is the same company which released green card fever. Found the review on indianwatchdog..

http://indianwatchdog.netfirms.com/consumers/gcf.html

It is very possible that the DVD of Pinjar might be authored on to DVD in 1:85:1 as this is how Green card fever was presented on DVD. The DVD of Pinjar should be good quality wise. (now we wait and see).

Given the fact that 'Green Card Fever' is a small budget indie film, I think 1.85.1 is its OAR and it is properly presented on dvd this way. But Pinjar 2. 35.1 scope and a crop job to 1.85 will ruin it. Here's hoping for a proper OAR presentation! :baaa: :nopity:

Anybody watched SHOWBIZ INDIA's review of PINJAR? Their review showed clips of the movie. These clips had a transparent VIDEO SOUND logo in the middle and and a vertically scrolling logo. The video was of very poor quality and it looked like it was shot of a theater screen with a DV camera.
Is BEI really doing this dvd or the clips I saw where from a pirate copy?..

:hmm: :O

The clips you saw were pirated. The pirates now days are using Video sound logos and puting them all over the movie. I recall a video sound notice about this with other Hindi dvd movies. I also saw a clip of this movie on sony tv on dish network, but it had no logos and the clip was sharp.
