Hi Ganti,

You mentioned in another thread that you have HTPC, Progressive DVD drive and ATI video card. May be you can clarify some of the following:

What is most essential for getting Progressive picture?

Is it the DVD drive, or is it ATI card or is there extra hardware/ software reqd.??

Once you have the 24 film frames per second can you set the display setting @ 72 Hz so that you get each frame displayed 3 times each instead of 2-3 combination?

There are lots of video cards in the market. Which ones are appropriate for Progressive videos? I think, video cards become expensive when they are made compatible for handling the inferior interlaced NTSC, PAL etc are more expensive?? If we are not interested in Broadcast NTSC or PAL TV, may be a cheap video card is good enough for DVD playback??

Can you (video card/ scaler) scale 720x480 digital picture from DVD to higher resolutions 1600x1200, 1920x1440 1024x768 etc??

Thanks.

Rana

Rana,
I will try to answer some of the questions you asked. First of all 2 years ago when I brought my first front projector, I start using my Computer drive which is a Basic second generation DVD drive and I liked the picture even though it is pretty basic video card and a 2x drive. In general all computers produce a progressive picture no matter what video card is.
After reading lots of information from Avsforum.com I have upgraded my video card to Radian LE( paid $75 from newEGG.com) and ATI Software DVD player( comes with this card) with DVD Genie( Free) to control Gamma settings and change the Deinterlacing settings (it has BOB, WEAVE, SMART DETECT, 2:3 pull down). Radian cards has special deinterlacing technique when coupled with ATI player they produce an outstanding image. I am now using ATI 7.6 DVD player.
In all you don’t need faster processor than 450MMX and any DVD drive serve the purpose. And also I have upgraded to AOPEN sound card with an Optical out to connect my AV Receiver.
Yes this Radian cards can scale video up to 1920 * 1440 by using Powestrip( Free ware). But I am using 1024*768 at 60HZ, native to my Projector resolution and it looks great. I tried all the different combinations and I think this is best for my projector.

Hope this answer some of your questions.
