I agree with you there Arsh....not as good but better than we are ever going to get. It is a clean transfer from when I scanned through it even though the colors, sharpness are not the best.

What do you expect from a film thats 20+years old...bold and vibrant eastman colours???

You must remember that negs of old films are so badly damaged that not much restoration can be done. Old negs once used are stored in poor conditions and left to die. This still happends today with recent films suffering the same plight.

From the screenies the print looks quite good, considering with what BEI had to work with.

Just compare it with ANY new releases from Spark or EROS and Im sure you will agree that BEI's Kaalia looks miles better in terms of overall DVD quality. It is a sad statement, but its the truth.

(where are all the expert comments at???)

I guess it depends on the producer, because the Rupam Chitra Hrishikesh Mukherjee films from DEI look pretty good.

Do they bother to go to the negative for these older films? Are you sure the rightsholder didn't supply them with whatever positive print they had?

Sunny:

For a 20+ year old film no doubt the colors are good but compared to another old film Don this is not as good. Dont get me wrong I mean it looks great but could have been better.

What do you all think?

I think, Sunny is UNECESSARILY DEFENSIVE...By no means we needed to CRITICIZE DEI/BEI here for their EFFORTS. I totally believe the made thie USUAL LEVEL efforts, but RESULTS are not Consistent with some other films of same or OLDER AGE but BETTER SOURCES etc..

So, comparison, was within BEI classics not with SPARK/EROS /VS Shits..by any means..

We all understand, that this is the end of the road, for this film with whatever BEI has given us. There wont be any thing better!!
So take it easy Sunny and Breath easy..here..It was not CRITICISM on BEI just for sake of CRITICISING..

screenshots looks just fine. cannot ask for consistency where the negatives source always vary. i am very much confident that BEi would use the best source that they could get a hold of.

sunny... dont know about others, but i am eagerly waiting for the forthcoming list.. and what's up with their website!

Well, you sarcy man,

I rented this today, on the disc it has a spark logo. When you play it, the spark logo and adress apears..............................

however when the main menu appears its EXACTLY as your screenshots.

I wonder if Spark are doing the same as TTV did with DEI discs?

Very strange

After Tip-Top and Apollo...Spark have bought distribution rights of BEI titles within the UK. Spark are using the same DLT master from BEI labs, and will replicate and release them for UK/Europe only. Right now some titles are appearing cheap on Play.com
