In fact if anyone has transferred the Orson VHS version on to DVD that would also be great. The Sony Orson original VHS release was not bad at all!

In the VHS days, early Sony-Orson releases were just fabulous, better than other best Indian VHSs, and later releases were just crap. Looks like, Sony-Orson Masoom VHS was among their better ones. Worth looking for Sony-Orson VHS version.

... and if I recall correctly - they were the only Indian company to release videos on Betamax as well as VHS.

Yep, forgot about that. Sony was competing with VHS with their superior format 'Beta' and hence collaborated with, or owned, Sony-Orson and released quite a few (about 100 - 200) Hindi films on Betamax. And, later as Betamax was loosing out, converted those to VHS and kept selling them. So, a Beta tape will have a better PQ than it's VHS converted release. Or, if someone can find a master tape, will be even better (assuming, as someone mentioned above, that film prints/ negatives have all been damaged).

(I'm sure even now, many video labs have the capability to handle Beta tapes).

Masoom is a wonderful experience always; btw, it's based on Man, Woman, And Child -- however, the ending of Masoom is upbeat unlike that of the original.

Most broadcast TV until very recently has been on Beta - I know for sure that B4U and ZeeTV use Beta for their broadcast tapes.

FINALLY! This has been restored (somewhat) and uploaded by Shemaroo - the logo is there, and it is now widescreen, but this is the best looking version of Masoom I've ever seen:

My obsession with this film continues - comparative shots from the Shemaroo DVD. T-Series first, Ultra second and Shemaroo third. The Shemaroo DVD is unfortunately cropped, and is advertised as an anamorphic presentation - this looks like the version they have out on YouTube.
