went to see this last week it was really good, the guy was really funny and down to earth. It's only when they started chatting that you realise just how many top films he has made and how consistent he has been. The guy was really chilled to and posed for photographs and signed my copy of Khabhi Khabhi for me!

any1 else go?

Yash Chopra is one of the real great directors of Indian cinema of all time. He not only is good and succesfull but is one of the few producers/directors from Bombay that have had the courage to do films of different genres and also at times bold (for their times) and different films. But unfortunately the success of his son and his film 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' changed him and the Yash Raj Banner. Yah Chopra and the Yahs Raj banner were synonymous with good and different films earlier but now all they make is the same crap repackaged over and over again. In one of his interviews Yash Chopra had mentioned that before 'DDLJ' he had made many succesfull films but he had never seen the kind of money they did from 'DDLJ'. I think it is that money that changed him and he realized that in India selling the same crap over and over again as long as it is packaged and marketed well, is a lot more profitable than making good or different films. What a shame that this happened to one of the really good and great directors. What a shame we will never see another film of the calibre of Ittefaq, Kanoon, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Deewar, Daag, Waqt, Kabhi Kabhi, Trishul, Lamhe or Darr again.

Yeah.In My Opinion his stature has gone down after 'Dil To Pagal hain'. I dont particularly care that he produces all those sugary romances, but I wish he directs films which are different

Kanoon was directed by BR Chopra. But agree with you, its been a while since Yash Chopra directed something of the calibre of the films you mention. You could add 'Kaala Patthar' to that list too. As a genre it was quite striking and original. A repenting, cowardly hero seeking to redeem his guilt in a small time and dangerous job...

Lamhe has to be one of his best, a girl falling for an older man. Until today hardly there is a film as mature as that except for Dil Chahta Hai.

I had contemplated adding 'Kaala Pathar to the list but since I always though of it as one of Yash Chopra's weaker efforts I left it out. Although on second thoughts, I should have included the film atleast for its different theme. It was also one of the very few disaster films attempted in Indian cinema.
Two other films that I did not include in my earlier post, but which I should have are Yash Chopra's directorial debut 'Dhool Ka Phool' (a story of a woman betrayed by her lover and the subsequent fate of their illegitimate child) and 'Dahramputra' (the story of a Muslim child brought up by Hindu parents, confronted with the communal hatred of the India - Pakistan partition).

Lamhe was a bold and different film not only because of the 'younger girl in love with an older man theme' but also for the suggestive incestous relationship considering the girl is the daughter of the woman the older man loved.
