In India, a Collector's Edition of THE NAMESAKE has been released by UTV -- it is in NTSC (at least that's what it says on the back) --- Runtime is 1:57:07 -- this looks PAL sped up though (of 122 minutes theatrical runtime).

Interestingly, BBFC lists two separate runtimes for the DVD -- with just 1 second of difference ;-)

UTV - closing credits have shehnai music when you hear the 5.1 track; but have an English song if you switch to the director's commentary track ;-)

Just found out that this is not so... some pieces of the UTV DVD have ended up with audio track out of synch with video, all jumbled up, in the last few minutes of the movie. UTV has supposedly corrected this error in the new lot.

The "good" dvds have holograms on both the front and the back of the case, while the defective ones have (a single) hologram only on one side.

Saw this last night. Really enjoyed the film - although I did feel that the intro of Maxine was rushed and her character was not explored enough. In the book you get a better understanding of who she is - whereas in the film (watching it with people who have not read the book) her motivations are not that clear.

But overall it was a good film - especially enjoyed the crisp photography! Defo one to watch again and again and again.

I got my bad copy replaced with the corrected one. The corrected DVD does have the hologram on both the front and back of the cover.

I totally agree. The book gives equal attention to Gogol's story (Maxine and Moushumi), as well as the parents, whereas the film is very focused on the parents' story, and reduces Gogol's internal struggle and the women in his life to a mere subplot.
