It has been years since DEI/ BEI demise that we had original code, same as the original code film encoding, Song DVDs.

Be it YRF or Shemaroo or T-Series or whatever brands that are avail now, all have/ had reduced bit rate and many a times non-anamorphic DVDs. At least, the type of encoding mostly stayed the same. That is, Song DVDs may be shrunk DVDs but Progressives stayed Prog, Pseudo-Prog stayed Pseudo-Prog and Field Averaged stayed stayed Field Averaged.

But, now I noticed something different in newer Shemaroo Song DVDs. Not only these are reduced bit rate, even their encodings have all ended up turning Field Averaged even if their film DVD was Pseudo Prog. I doubt they will use a new telecine which happens to be PAL and from PAL to NTSC, it becomes Field Averaged. If they used the original encoding, how could they change from Pseudo-Prog to Field Averaged ?? May be, they change from NTSC DVD to PAL master and then use PAL source to encode NTSC ?? I doubt they will do even that.

My guess is that they just take Video-Audio outputs from DVD player, compile a VHS tape, or plug straight into pauseable DVD recorder and let DVD recorder do the recording. Or may be not, as even the 5 step repeat sequence changes to 6 step repeat sequence implying PAL to NTSC transfer somewhere in the process.

Moreover, you almost never see anamorphic songs these days.

In short, you are better off compiling your own Song DVDs using the original encoding.
