Just come back from watching Company on my own believe it or not (Basically my arsehole mates backed out and i was determined to watch it) and i have to say this is one of the best movies i have EVER seen come out of bollywood!! it overshadows movies like Satya, Vaastav etc and sticks out like a sore thumb!! RGV has really done his homework on this movie and has created a corker of a movie... Ajay Devgan plays the quiet but terrifying bhaiya and does an excellent job.. i cudnt really see anyone else doing a better job than him.. there were no raised voices or "Sala Kutha harami" words and u could still feel the vengence in his character.. absolutely excellent!! as for Viveck Oberoi.. what an actor and has really got a talen that should be recognised.. His hot headed character flows perfect on screen and really does bring the movie alive.. Mohan Lal the police commisioner really has an excellent role and seeming he hasnt got Hindi as his first languages, allows his character to be portrayed perfectly!! Manisha is good but really doesnt doo much, still thumbs up to her for not fucking the movie up!! Now i never thought i would say this but this movie has overshadowed any release out of india for ages and i just hope Kaante really lives upto expectations because this movie will really give its run for its its money for being an excellent all rounder movie..!! Now that is saying somet!! Pity really the wankers have got this title as it does have a lot of dark scenes which will just like normal be screwed up by the idiots!! :( Really guys.. this is one excellent movie.. im glad i watched it alone instead of the missus nagging me all the way through the movie asking me whats going on.. Easily the best film since sholay!!

Geez that’s some recommendation! But the way you mention the dark scenes, I fear a Chandni Bar and Bawander type DVD looming :(

Damn!!, That review sounds too good to be true. can't wait to see the movie. Unfortunately, I will probably have to wait forever for the dvd to come out. No Indian movies r shown over here in Memphis (except in the art houses).

Is there really a choice between the two? Even if I had not seen the movie, which I just got back from doing, I'd still say there's no contest between the two. Company or any movie from Ram Gopal Verma as a matter of fact wins hands down. So go see Company. Go straight to GO, don't stop just GOoooooooo watch a very good film.

My two bits on Company. I would not go as far as 'faddy' in saying it's the best film since Sholay, as a matter of fact I don't think it's even the best film in the last few years. But I will say this, that 'Company' is one of, if not the best work from Ram Gopal Verma, which in itself is saying a lot since he is most definately one of the best film makers in Bombay. In fact he is probably amongst a select few (not more than 3 or 4) directors in Bollywood who actually are good film makers and not just good film marketeers like some directors we all know.
All in all, I think 'Company' is a landmark film in Indian cinema and I pray and hope for the future of Bollywood that this film does well. It's success is very important since the film does away with so many stereotypes and cliches of Bollywood. The highlight of the film I think is the brilliant performances from all the lead actors (and I mean actors not heroes or villains or comedienes). Mohan Lal in his Bollywood debut shows why he is considered a legend down south in a brilliant performance. Ajay Devgun has never performed better and does complete justice to the most meaningful role ever played by him. Vivek Oberoi is certainly a great find for Bollywood. Now if only they will give him some more meaningful roles like the one in Company, and not make him dance around trees, for that the industry has enough jackasses like Abhishek, Tushar, Salman... the list is looooong. Manisha Koirala in her small but important role does a fabulous job as does the rest of the supporting cast. I recommend that everyone go see this film in the theatres and help in making it the great success it deserves, not only for being a great film but also for helping Bollywood move forward. Ram Gopal Verma with 'Company' has taken the baton from the likes of Ashutosh Gowarikar & Farhan Akhtar and moved it to the next milestone in the annals of Indian cinema.
I guess, now all there is to say, is "SAB GANDA HAI, PAR DHANDA HAI YEH"

I have just seen COMPANY myself and I must slightly differ from the opinons posted on this forum (I can see you lot beating me up with a bargeploe).

While the film contains wonderful performances from the cast, and a great script I couldn't help but feel that the film look too colourful and vivid to tackle the subject of voilence and gangs. The cinematography and editing went slightly overhead and celebrated the fact that its a Ram Gopal Varma film, and not a film about the subject or theme it concentrates on. This didn't help me to feel or concentrate on the main plot or even characters while watching.

But dispite this negative point I still think it is the best Hindi film of the year so far, but I'm sure Ram Gopal Varma could have done so much better with even a lower budget!

IMHO I think Mani Ratnam's film Kanathil Muthamital is the best Indian film so far this year.

Too colourful and vivid for violence and gangs? We all love bland and dull ganster flicks, don't we?:) And that too coming from someone who like films by Shankar - The king of over-the-top, show off pseudo-intellectual films that make very light of "serious topics"...

In any case, I think Company was technically brilliant while being completely in tune with the subject. Varma made the whole thing so watchable, entertaining and yet not to be taken too lightly. I think the sound design by Dwarak Warrier (Jungle, Asoka) deserves special mention. Of course...Ramu should have done whole thing in Tamil...then Mani Ratnam would've been no competition at all!
