i saw the movie not less than 6 months back and there were no subtitles synchronization problem. I am not tamil, and i followed the subs along perfectly - i have the original, non-dts, cropped version.

The anamorphic version is a fuller aspect ratio and appears to have better colors, but is softer than the cropped version. Frustrating!

Based on these shots the new version is crap and the old quite decent. Incompetence rears its ugly head. I wonder what shitty telecine they used or how else they managed to make anamorphic pictures half as sharp as letterboxed ones. :?:

Are the above two covers both the original non-anamorphic version. Could anyone tell me how the cover of the anamorphic version looks like?

Thanks, arsh. I read your previous posts. I understand you got the anamorphic version. Is yours the second sliver cover or something else? The first red cover seems safer to be the original non-anamorphic version.

Arsh, since you have seen both versions, maybe you could tell me the distinct differences between the two version's disks or menus. So it would be easier for me to distinguish them at a glance, if the clerk allows me to check it in the store's DVD player before I buy it.

BTW, technically, the difference is that the old version was Film to NTSC transfer where each video field contains info from only one film frame and every 5th field is a repeated field (24 fps converted to 60 fields per sec). This edition is/ was letterboxed in a 4:3 frame.

The new version is 'Film to PAL to NTSC' converted NTSC DVD and is field averaged. Each video field contains averaged info from more than one film frame. Even though this version is anamorphic, it's worst than the direct Film to NTSC converted one.
Had they made a PAL DVD from Film to PAL telecine and made it anamorphic, it would have been better than the original Film to NTSC letterboxed NTSC DVD.

Don't underestimate Chenyang.

Another test:
Pause any motion frame. If it's clear one image, it's the old version. If it shows multi-images in one freeze frame, then it's the new version.
