but stephen it is criminal for BEI not to present this film with OAR and anamorphic imho!!

Was the film definitely shot at 1.85:1 though? Every version I've seen of Sadma and Moondram Pirai has been at 1.60:1 or there abouts. The BEI DVD actually looks to have more cropped from the bottom instead of at the sides. The shot below also shows more at the top on BEI's version than on the Shemaroo disc, but has a lot missing at the bottom...

I guess because they felt it wasn't worth making an anamorphic DVD for a 1.60:1 film since there would be black bars on every side of the screen on a regular 4:3 TV.

Somehow I was under the impression that BEI Sadma was interlaced. But, was glad to find that it's Progressive. So far, it still plays, unlike many others.

audio is quite good on shemaroo.
though the print has some jump cuts due to minor damage -- suddenly the movie skips a second or two...

somayujulu has a guest appearance in the Hindi version. wasn't he the one who played gulshan grover's character in the regional-language versions?

is this a remake or a dubbing?

If I'm not mistaken, it seems like both the Tamil and Hindi versions were shot back to back, ala Hey Ram/Mumbai Xpress. It's not dubbed, that's for sure.

I just bought the BEI version recently and actually didn't think it looked as bad as it does in the screenshots DU posted. It's a little darker than Shemaroo's and the colours aren't as vibrant, but I reckon that fits the tone of the movie better. It certainly didn't look as contrast-heavy and bleak as in the shots.

Stephen, do you still have shemaroo version too?

I know it is like ripping graves and get dead bodies out posting in this thread.
