I thought the sound on this DVD was pretty good. Towards the beginning of the movie, when the train goes by, my subwoofer came alive and my living room was actually shaking!!! The surround speakers were active and noticeable through out the movie, not just during the songs.

The picture quality is similar to the MDK DVD. The picture looked decent on my 36'' WEGA!!!!

Oh, believe me, I know everyone at this store very well. There from Guyana, and that's one thing we already have in common: a Caribbean upbringing as well as fondness for anything Indian. I call them auntie, uncle, and brother or sister. That is how good I know them, and they always introduce me to people.

It's just that I don't really want DVD's anymore now. I don't even want the EROS sale anymore I think....WHO AM I KIDDING????DVD'S FOR 99 CENTS, OF COURSE I'M GETTING SOME!

Over here, I live in Mississauga, and the Saathiya DVD here is going really far as well! For the most part the movie seems to be REALLY appreciated here. I was surprised because Kaante has received mixed reviews and Saathiya has gotten some surprisingly good reviews!

However, my video shop does the following:

Buy a VHS: $10-$15
Buy a DVD: $20-$30 (they were selling Saathiya for like 30!)
Rent a VHS: $1.50
Rent a DVD: $3.00

Thats really weird that you can't rent the DVD!

Just saw 'Saathiya' dvd. Shaad Ali ain't gonna get any orginality award for this movie. It looked ok on my samsung 32" HDTV. DD5.1 was excellent. The location sound was great. It really improves the dialogue delivery between characters . I hope more and more Indian movies will follow the same path.

Here's a few more screen shots from the Saathiya DVD - captured in PowerDVD and compressed with 10% compression in PaintShopPro as I would usually do them - thanks to Arsh for providing these. Arsh actually provided me with he original BMPs – which I then compressed using JPEG – the JPEG compression makes very little difference to the picture, nothing significant anyway.

as I thought. The pixelisation is gone. It's now fuzzy, but not a blocky mess. :rolleyes:

Michael! take a LOOK at DUM screen shots! I have DVD! and My eyes, dont see that kinda messy, SCAN LINES either?

I dont know whats happening here! Ali, thought the same for SAATHIYA!

If u guys want I can submit a few BMP screen caps of DUM to ali? let me know?

if i remember correctly, the songs weren't cut that much, only a few notes at the end (at least for chalka chalka re) so that the story flowed better. the shorter the shamita song the better as it was not needed in the film.

Well, I got to watch, SAATHIYA, after long wait..

here are my humble impressions..

DVD..PQ, just same like parsad!

Sound..true 5.1 good!! not dynamic as rehman's back ground music is very laid back, I enjoyed 2 channel CD sound on this film better!

Film: slow, too slow in first half, too many flash backs, hard to keep track of past, present future! 2nd half better paced than first.

from beg to end, it feels like u r watching a south indian film...even songs picturization, cinema work directions, every thing..

good things, are gulzar's diologues, esp, rani saying" bajpai and mushraf ji bhi tou mile they"
gulzar's lyrics..rehman's music..

story and plot by mani ratnam, ok, atleast it is not a YRF mush/semi gloss, semi floss!

This kinda story desperately needed a treatment, direction, plot from a north indian director, of Gulzar, Hrishi da, or Basu chaterjee calibre, to make it a loveable, middle class love story!

Acting, rani was ok, but noth worth an oscar, vivek looked good in different image and acted maturely...rani, looked ugly, except where she is trying to look like madhuri dixit?
Rani's sister was kinda cute, good!

now, IMHO highlight was Tabu's 5 minute presence, showing, how good performer she is, yer 5 minutes were more impressive than others 3 hrs!

and the WIINER is A.R. Rehamn! Music is the best thing, in the film, even songs, esp chori pe chori unnecessarily placed, sounded really good! Back ground music is really laid back, but still really impressive for this kinda film..

So, overall, watchable flick, not a COLLECTOR ITEM! :baaa:

One thing I wish they had done was to put a "based on" credit for the script of Alai Payuthey, so people know that it is based on that film.
