Tell me why would a filmmaker like to take risks when he knows that audiences (like the ones who pamper these immature films like MDK etc.) will ditch it in the first weekend itself ?

if the filmmaker is interested in making art, instead of just money, they'll take risks. and i hope audiences don't pamper mdk too much (and it seems they won't) since this film is way below the standard set by ddlj, and kkhh.

it was unfortunate that the failure of lamhe turned y.c. away from innovation. to tell you the truth, i just want aditya chopra and karan johar to put out films like ddlj and kkhh every two years since i love these films and these two directors have shown that they can make these types of films well. i really don't care what the other directors under the yash raj films banner do; just give me aditya and karan.

MUJHSE DOSTI KAROGE ENTERS UK CHARTS!
The movie makes an entry at number seven in the charts!
Yash Raj Films looks like they have another British blockbuster on their hands with Mujhse Dosti Karoge, starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee.
The love triangle entered the British box office charts at number seven, becoming the second highest new entry below the American hit Eight Legged Freaks.
The media have not given the film very good reviews but it still managed to make a total of £204,490 in its first weekend.
On average, Mujhse Dosti Karoge also made the most money per screen during its opening weekend, beating competition from all the big Hollywood releases.
It looks like Hrithik Roshan has kept hold of his popularity with the overseas audience, despite having several flops in a row in India.

I don't think it is a big deal these days to enter the UK charts... even crap films like yhj and ojj do then a reputed banner like yashraj films is bound to be there.... the question is how long it will stay there???? devdas has now consistently stayed in the top 11 for 5 weeks.... as for average screen earnings the film was being shown on what 32 screens as opposed to 512 for the number 1 film men in balck II ...no doubt the UK earnings will help MDK and i am sure it will make a profit or break even. but how long will this film last in the audiences memory????? one of those forgettable films i am afraid.... and i have nothing against hrithik kareena or rani infact i quite like them all...but i would rather not see hrithik in such roles as they are getting boring and repetitive...
at the end of the day if the film is a hit in india(which it is not showing signs of) then hrithik bo standing will remain.. he is a very talented actor but he is ever so wasted in roles like these...
and this is coming from someone who has seen the film.... and someone who is a big fan of all yashraj films upto dil to pagal hai... but they seriously are lacking originality now...

arsh bhai according to radiosargam devdas had beaten kkhh record in UK

DEVDAS EARNS MORE THAN KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI IN UK!
The film beats the collections of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's hit film Devdas has become the second highest earning Bollywood movie ever in the UK.

In its fifth week at the British box office charts, the epic has collected a whopping £1,541,846. That is more than the likes of previous UK super hits Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein and Hum Tumare Hain Sanam.

Although it looks unlikely to beat the record of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which made £2,222,898, there is no doubt that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be thrilled with the huge success of Devdas in the UK.

"The response has been overwhelming," Shah Rukh Khan told Desi when we told him the good news. "Devdas was a very important film for everyone involved and its success is great news for us all."

Mujhse Dosti Karoge
Love, lies and sacrifice ??????

What follows is the predictable tears-and-sacrifice followed by a happy ending.

Kunal Kohli shows himself to be a technically competent director. But his attempt to pay homage to not only his mentor Yash Chopra but also to a number of other directors including Karan Johar who have influenced him has been his undoing. The sooner he becomes his own director, the better.

Watch the film if you haven’t seen You’ve Got Mail, The Truth About Cats And Dogs and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Don’t be surprised by the Manmohan Desai kind of ending though.

Bigger Picture

In an unprecedented development, south Delhi's most happening movie hall, Priya, has pulled out Mujhse Dosti Karoge before the Hrithik Roshan-Rani Mukherjee-Kareena Kapoor starrer could complete a week and replaced it with Gurinder Chadha's Bend It Like Beckham. The writing is on the wall: Hrithik doesn't sell anymore.

But there is hope yet. Hrithik must reinvent himself quickly if he wishes to survive as a top male star. What is it about Hrithik that his turning away his one-time fans? It is the irritating sameness that he brings to the roles he essays.

In Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, his style was fresh because people hadn't seen him before. So he made a mark with his Greek God looks and exceptional dancing abilities. But now, the act has gone predictable and stale. Hence the string of flops in the past few months - Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and now, Mujhse Dosti Karoge.

Perhaps the greatest mistake Hrithik Roshan has made is in insisting on playing himself in every film, an attribute that he seems to have borrowed from Salman Khan, the actor who reportedly helped him develop the striking muscles he flashes on screen. Salman has got away with his non-actor tag because he arrived on the scene at a time when it was enough to look good, dress cool and move well. The rules of the game have changed today with actors replacing stars as the driving forces. It's the era of Manoj Bajpai and Vivek Oberoi, guys who are stars because they are actors first. Gone are the days when you could dance your way to fame.

The sooner Hrithik Roshan realises that the better. Time is fast running out on him. He has announced the intention to slow down and concentrate on quality work in future. On how he defines 'quality' will hinge his future as a Bollywood actor. To begin, he must play characters, not pretty cutouts!

Top 10: MDK Knocks Devdas Off The Top!

DEVDAS KNOCKED OFF THE TOP SPOT!
Mujhse Dosti Karoge is the new number one!
After reigning the charts for several weeks, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic Devdas has finally stepped down from the top spot.
There is a brand new number one in the box office charts and that honour belongs to Yash Raj Film's latest release Mujhse Dosti Karoge.
The love story, starring Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor, has opened well in India's big cities. It has also done great business overseas, in countries such as the UK and US.
However, with some fairly bad reviews from the media, we will have to wait and see whether the audience will continue to flock to the cinemas or whether business will die down in the next few days and weeks.

Cinema Top Ten
1. Mujhse Dosti Karoge
2. Devdas
3. Yeh Hai Jalwa
4. Humraaz
5. Om Jai Jagadish
6. Aakhiyon Se Goli Maare
7. Awaara Pagal Deewana
8. Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai
9. Kya Dil Ne Kaha
10. The Legend of Bhagat Singh

Not bad for a flop......

Yikes man.. Naven not to be a sore thumb here but can u tell me which "stats" are to be believed ? The one which Komal Nahata/Taran Adarsh gives abt films, when they are based in India ( as I am sure someone above had posted the ratings of the films by BO collections)..or should we believe what Radiosargam is saying..So according to their stats.. Yeh Hai Jalwa is No3... but I certain no one even knows abt the film anymore... and it is a confirmed flop... I can always counter your arguement by referring you to the reveiws posted on Rediff.com :)

Dont worry about being a sore thumb, I understand where your coming from, your film of substance (Devdas) lost its top spot to mush (MDK) and your disputing the accuracy, I said it before. Confirmed flop? Keep telling yourself that.....

You talked of Taran Adarsh, isnt this his Top 5?

1 Mujhse Dosti Karoge
2 Devdas
3 Humraaz
4 Om Jai Jagadish
5 Yeh Hai Jalwa
