Hollywood is following suit?

from DVDfile.com

Not enough classics for you? How about a George Burns and Gracie Allen "triple feature" of Here Comes Cookie, Love in Bloom and Six of a Kind, all on one dual-layer disc? Each feature is presented in its original 1.37:1 full frame aspect ratio and mono, with no extras. Also on the double feature docket is a two-for-one of Man's Favorite Sport? and Strange Bedfellows, each presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and mono, plus trailers. Retail is $19.95 a pop for either the double or triple feature.

The difference is that these have mono tracks, are in black and white, and probably have pretty short running times. Possibly they will filter out some of the finer detail, if there is much in the film source. But I bet this 3-in-1 will look better than the many 1-in-1 DVDs of old Indian films.

These 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 DVDs are all openly Illegal versions. But, they seem to be doing it right. Progressive material has stayed progressive. Still, there is some degradation due to another compression out of already compressed material. How expensive are the DVD discs? May be $1 or so. Why do they recompress the material, just to save a $1 or so?? Why can't they just replicate and forget about economising disc space? Or, make it from Film using NTSC telecine, using high bit rates.
