but shemaroo is cropped heavily due to zooming.

Also, eros looks pal-ntsc from the combing in the shots. What about shemaroo ? is it proper ntsc progressive ?

NTSC pseudo-prog with the usual colour-lag problems I'd imagine.

Looks like Shemaroo colours are still better than Eros's ;-)

Check Saif's muffler -- it's still greenish in the Eros DVD shot -- even when shot in original colour profile... what do you say?

Sanjay! can u pls comment which colors are more realistic to theatric presentation?

Although I don't remember the color tone from the theatrical viewing, I think the Shemaroo DVD seems to be more accurate. I don't remember any greenish tinge in the theater.

Way to go Stephen!! Magic!! How abt improving sharpness, this SS looks a bit softer compared to shemaroo!

While cropping on shemaroo is nothing short of criminal and butchery imho!

you guys are over reacting on the cropping issue. it's not that bad. unless the top and bottom are also cropped?? I really can't tell from the screen shots as they are not exact frames.

this is not DEI cropping. Remember those?? 4:3 croptacular discs

also, I watched this film in the theater, and I could say the theatrical version was also cropped, since the jackarses didn't pull the drapes all the way :ffs:

ust admire all those who posted screen caps or watched EROS's Omkara DVD.

I lost patience.
Apart from being a PAL to NTSC field averaged transfer, it also forces you to watch unskippable lengthy and annoying adverts. I already know how to count 4,3,2,1 backwards. Don't need to learn from SRK. Tons of other unskippable adverts too.
Does anyone know how to back up this DVD in such a way that we don't get these annoying unskippable adverts ??

Is Shemaroo DVD is any better from 'unskippable adverts' point of view ?? Is that one PAL to NTSC converted field averaged as well ??

-------------------------

Comparing EROS and Shemaroo screen caps, it's obvious EROS DVD lacks luminance (common occurance in VHS era for non-lab transfers). I asked about it from one of the VHS makers and he laughed at it but didn't answer. I suspect it's the projector lamp power, like illuminating the film by light bulb (cheap) or illuminating the film by 'arc lamp' ??

You can use DVDShrink to back-up the DVD and there is an option to enable user controls to free up skipping ads or forced subtitles.

Other options would be to use DVD2One and rip the film only to a single layered disc ...

I'm waiting to get my hands on the Shemaroo edition rather than going for Eros!

I would just like to commend Eros on not only managing to stuff up the picture as usual (pal-ntsc), but also managing to wreck the audio as well.

Eros presents this disc in 5.1 echo surround where every speaker outputs the same sound and there is no channel separation. Way to go Eros.

When you pay for the original, you don't want to compromise on quality by backing it up shrunk. I backed up main film using DVD shrink @ 100%. (You get no menus etc, but who needs menus) and then split this new composition using DVD-Fab.

-------------

BTW, SRK/ EROS can easily chalk up another award if they introduced another category. Most contribution to eradicate illitracy. Forcing 4,3,2,1 down our throats innumerable number of times, making us learn how to count 4 to 1 backwards, sure will earn them this award.

Omkara did not live up to my and parents’ expectations, we found it disappointing, as for all the hype comparing it to Shakespeare’s Othello-PREPOSTEROUS!
Story lagged with predictable gore, not enough character build up, as such a comatose routine love story gone awry with Hideious Kareena’s numb acting and Vivek was a total waste.
