Does the U.K. edition of the dvd have burnt-in subtitles (as in the theatrical print itself) for the non-English dialogue?

it's been a long time since you guys talked about the source. i finally took a look at my ZEROS US DVD9 copy...and will do some work on it myself.

Cheeni Kum - ...sample screens:

before (top) & after (bottom)

Fixes:

Too much blue & green tint. Removed 12 units of blue, and 10 units of green.
Also contrast on DVD9 transfer was too much, and is reduced 12%.
Aspect Ratio was horrible on source. Fixed.
I'm removing also about 70% of total noise. Leaving some in, to have some sort of grainy feel.
Touch of sharpening will be added as well...
Increasing luminescence as well.

I really really wish that I had the UK version with full frame... :cry:

I really don't like the look of the processed orange tint faces, makes them look very unnatural compared with the original screen shot. Same tangoed look from the Metro process you did;

Let's compare the two in more detail -- this is a very interesting incident -- two separate transfers from Eros! Hmmm.

Is it possible that just like they appear to have done on Cheeni Kum, Eros and T-Series have been "opening up the matte" on top and bottom to reveal more info so that it fills out TV screens but also because of the now increased height, results in an AR that is less than 2.35 and close to 2.2?

Meaning they might not really be cropping that much...

Check out this for related info: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8314&p=68581&hilit=For+sake+of+interest+only...#p68581

I think you have way too much hope and give way too much credit to the likes of Eros (or which every d-grade outfit they use to get DVDs done) if you think they have the ability or even have the knowledge of proper framing of Indian films :lol: Cropping from left and right is all they know how to do.

I agree. And having seen this film at the cinema, I must reiterate that the Indian Eros DVD looks exactly the same as the film print did - blue hues and all.

i am in agreement with ali and stephen: the indian transfer was true to theatrical while the UK was not...

you are right about the orange...hmm...i'll have to take a look at that again...

thanks for input Ali & Stephen :) much appreciated. without the benefit of NEVER seeing what the indian DVD9 of CK looked like, i have to work with what i have...and trying to please MY own eyes for the colours...

but here i do see the orangish hue you speak of...i'm guessing that by decreasing the blue AND green together results in what you see here. will have to figure out a way to find that balance.

I used to get loads of colour problems when I did a few encodes a while back, they looked perfectly fine on my display but when others viewed them they appeared over saturated. I put this down to my numb monitor calibration. I've since used a few LCD monitor calibration guides and they look much better now - could possibly be your personal monitor preferences - try this guide;

I have read the reviews done by Stephan at the DVDTimes website, and also read through the information in this thread.

It was one of my most revered films of that year...superb film I felt.

I have the zEROS version from US...yes, I also saw this in the theatre, and it wasn't a proper transfer I felt. The India version is truer to what I saw and agree with everything Stephan has described.

Is there ANY other release of this movie, such as on MoserBaer or others?

Also Stephan posted a website where we could order the India EROS DVD9 but the link is inactive..the website is no longer there :(

Where else could I possibly order this DVD9 from unless someone has the DVD9 I could purchase thru PayPal? Thanks alot...would love my hands on the India version...
