Quote:
According to Sandor Berk, a member of Symphony Orchestra, who plays French Horn, 'working with Ilayaraja was a great experience. His musical notes has freshness in them and are fragrant. A thorough professional is Ilayaraja'.

Sorry I don't feel IR is greater than ARR.

Just for an example, I haven't heard an IR album that is greater than ARRs album duet. How sweet sounding is that album.

IR makes good melodies agreed, but I don't hear anything special. Maybe its my ears.

I am just listing songs from 2005

Adhu Oru Kanaa Kaalam
Kaattu Vazhi Nadaiya - pathos, only IR can do it
Killi Thattu Killi - melody, resembels some IR melody from 90s

Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy
Nalla Vaazhvu - a sweet melody, listen to the instruments when the mood of the song changes from happy family song to devotional song

Mumbai Xpress
Poo Poothathu - I dont consider this as a classic IR melody, but its another melody from IR

Oru Naal Oru Kanavu
Kaatril Varum Geetham - Song of the year - classic melody
Khajiraho - Resembles another song from 90s, but again good melody

I can go on and on and on, becuase its 845 movies and more than 4500 songs and from a critic point of view, more than 50% are hit.

I can give just 10 movies and it would be hard to find a any music in the history of indian music that matches it.

I know its hard for you to accept, but if you have time, just watch Nizhalgal or Johnny as a sample and you may change your opinion.

O-Boy

I hate comparing artist ( esp. of such caliber as ARR or IR ) - both of them are great and to think one-is-better than the other is simply not to have listened to the length and breadth of their works – one of my friend ( a musician btw) aptly put it, “between ARR and IR – only their body of work is different , their soul of music is the same”

No hard feelings - but please clean your ears, empty your mind and open your heart ...., IR will take you to places you have never been and chances are ARR will probably be sitting there enjoying those very same pieces that you are listening too ( a case-in-point the evergreen Nizhalgal )

Its not like I want to put ARR > IR. I just posted my feelings when I listen to music. What does it matter to me if ARR > IR or IR > ARR....it really doesn't make a difference to me. To my ears ARRs music sounds special...even divine at times...not any of the recent albums, but songs like Anjali Anjali en Kadhali, Kaadhal Rojave etc.

I've listened to many IR songs, even the ones DU mentioned. They simply don't evoke the same response. What can I do?
