The DVD was done by the same folks who does Ayngaran DVDs. I guess tip-top paid PRSAD LABS for the "decent package price" for this film, kudos to them :)

Now why couldn't EROS pay for the same package for DEVDAS???

Okay guys some sad news, the DVD says 5.1 but on my system which is a 5 speaker system and 5.1 DVDs like Kaho Naa Pyar Hai sound amazing, but this DVD has only the center speaker involved the rest have a slight hissing sound. the video is good though.

This movie was most probably in mono originally so the 5.1 thing is rubbish...anyway why are all of you wasting money on this rubbish...

I remember it's vinyl LP on good Hi Fi stereo. I don't remember if it was real stereo or simulated stereo, but left right directionality was definitely there. Had excellent Audio.

I can check on its LP, which I still have. How do we verify if it was real stereo or simulated stereo. In the 80s, when this film was released did the record companies ALWAYS stated truthfully "stereo" or "simulated stereo"??

I'm pretty sure that by the 1970s, the record companies (the two main ones being HMV and Polydor) started to issue true stereo LPs. One of the ways to simulate stereo was to put the same mono sound in the left and right channels, but to filter the bass out of one channel and filter the treble out of the other. This was done quite a bit on early Beatles albums put out by Capitol in the US because they didn't wait until they received stereo masters before releasing "stereo" LPs. I do not know whether this was done for Indian LPs. I'm sure you can tell whether or not it is true stereo just by listening to it with headphones and adjusting the balance to see whether the left and right have different sounds. If there is true left-right directionality as you say, it must be true stereo.

The music most probably must have been in stereo since it was a big movie but I doubt the film was in stereo unless the movie was in 70mm stereo which again I doubt...
