I'd seen a poster of this that was quite nice. It was of the main cast standing, and a sunset was behind them. The picture of AB and Hema standing at the bottom left is part of that.

T-Series got the soundtrack rights, and YRF usually goes with HMV. I don't know why.

I watched BAGHBAN, it is a DECENT film, INDEED esp for AB fans..he is simply BRILLIANT, HEMA is a DELIGHT to watch..Salman goes EASY on nerves too..Music is humming!!

Story is SAME LIKE AMRIT(Samita/Rajesh), but has been GLAMORAIZED with FLAMBOYANT parents!! but melo drama is the same!! Rajesh and Samita were OLD/LUSTERLESS/SHABBY couple!!

Just got this one - I firmly believe that the source material of DVDs rises in importance above the DVD format's inherent technicalities. This disc may be mediocre in terms of authoring, but the source material is definitely well above average quality. I don't know if they attempted to touch the 5.1 sound, but it has ended up on the platter with quite severe distortions in the dialogue.

The film itself is designed to please self-righteous Indian movie-goers. In this movie, a character can only be 'very good' or 'very bad' at any one given point of time. AB and Hema are (what did you expect) demi-god-like parents with Talibansque ideals - where women must be told how to dress and 'not go out looking like that'. The film puts across AB's character's poor financial sensibility as the responsibilty of his children, without ever making an attempt to explore or understand the motive behind the decisions made by his sons. In several scenes, clubs and discos are portrayed as, quite simply - 'places for bad people'. Several scenes later, The Booker Prize-winning Baghban himself is witnessed bunny-hopping and boogieing down with 20-year-old kudis .

Now that kind of behaviour - the Taliban will not approve.

I thought Baghban was a decent movie - but what really pissed me off was Salman Khan's character spouting lines like 'Charan Sparsh Maaji'

Its possibily been mentioned before, but the film reminded me of AVTAAR (1983). It was a 'comeback' vehicle for Rajesh Khanna, and Shabana Azmi gave a very realistic performance as usual.

The main difference in BAGHBAN was the intense romance and subsequent break-up of the parents forming crux of the story. The other was Salman Khan's character representing the 'ideal' son, which in Avtaar was a servant. Khanna, a car mechanic, made a scientific breakthrough in Avtaar, and in Baghban, Bachchan, an accountant, becomes an author of a bestseller... Of course, the movie is showing the lives of the elite as films do nowdays, whereas Avtaar was revolving around a working class family.

I would be reluctant to compare this film with AMRIT (1986), as Amrit was a sequel to Avtaar, inspired by its success, and didn't add anything new. Additionally, Amrit addressed the problems of old people in a very general way, and didn't create the 'drama' that is prevalent in Avtaar and Baghban.

Hema Malini looked more beautiful in Baghban than she did in her youth. Never understood why Amitabh dye his hair but keeps a white goatee...! Bachchan and Malini's romance was worser than 16 year olds... But it was a very enjoyable film, highly recommended!

It is NOT FIELD AVERAGED and marginally better than their previous new releases, like TERE NAAM, CHALTE CHALTE, ARMAAN..etc..

Btw, still this kinda transfer will look terrible on 2 in one or if further compressed.. :nopity:

I got my copy yesterday. You are right Arsh. It's not field averaged. Glad to see Film to NTSC telecine.
