here are the answers to your questions !!!

When is R1 DVD releasing or even better, is this film slated for showing in
North American theatres??

The film was bought by Miramax for the US. They are figuring out when to release
the film. They should eventually put out the film on DVD.

The DVD is made from a master transfer tape. Once the transfer has been done you
can create a NTSC or PAL version and there should be no difference in quality.
The cover and packaging will change depending on the company and country.

As Ali commented, it's (R2 PAL) the best Indian DVD he has seen. He scored it 9
out of 10, where as most of the good Hindi DVDs have scored 6 or a 7 or in two
or three cases 8. Let's have an equally good transfer for R1 or R0

I had to deal with the DVD myself, my cameraman was not available so I was quite
nervous, but the way to get things done is to spend the time making sure
everything is done the way you want it. A lot of directors don’t go to the
transfer or care too much about the film once they have made it.

I was really sure I wanted to put a lot of extras on the DVD, we had 60 hours of
DV material of the behind the scenes story, so we made a making of doc. Which
shows some of the madness behind the scenes.

I like it when people put on deleted scenes and we added a lot of them, and
alternative edits which are more often where the changes happen, things get
moved around and the structure changes.

I also added my short film THE SHEEP THIEF, the trailer and did a commentrary.


What's the additional cost of one 35mm film print (2 hour film)
A print will cost about £3000.00

Do you really think, 2.35:1 is a better AR as compared to 1.85:1 from frame
composition point of view?? If so, how will you shoot a tall person like Amitabh
standing beside a small boy?

Nothing beats a 1:2.35 ratio. It’s the format for the big screen. Of course it
depends on the story. What are you trying to say. If it is an intimate drama in
a house maybe 1:1.85 is better.

For a landscape film, you want a wider frame to compose.
I wanted the warrior to be a western. I had amazing landscapes so the wider the
frame the better. But that comes down to the directors eye.

when you have a wider frame [1.2.35] the way you shoot people is go further back
to shoot the whole of the tall and short person, this way you also see more on
the sides of the frame, so you have to spend more time and money making the sets
and the landscape interesting.

Then when you do a close up, you go in real close and you get amazing shots of
peoples eyes etc, like you would in a classic western.

When you shoot a square format like 1.66 it is more like tv. So you shoot a
close up by showing somes head and shoulders, it is hard to get a great wide
shot or a reall good close up of someones eyes. Which is why so much of tv is
people’s heads talking.

Congratulation, on making such a successful film..I wish, due to stupid politics, WARRIOR should not have been removed from OSCARS!! Things would have been different!!

I totally agree with you on this:

A film, with landscpe, war scenes, battle scenes, viasta, like Dances with wolves, asoka etc, and ofcourse, JP DUTTA kinda films do need 2.35:1 AR, rest, ARMAAN/MANN etc etc, 1.85:1 will suffice..

Recently BH had a kinda weired framing, theatric and 2 versions of dvds? any comments?

Miramax has released the teaser trailer to Asif Kapadia's brilliant "The Warrior" which is finally getting a US release. It says Anthony Mighella presents, so I'm assuming that the British director brought it to us the same way Tarantino did with Yimou's "Hero" The link:
