Time for the weekend Box Office report of MONSOON WEDDING, but first. I have decided no longer to venture any more estimates for the film's final US gross, since each week the film out does my predictions and the estimated total gross keeps going up. But one thing is now certain, that 'Monsoon Wedding' should certainly gross over $10 million in the US. Which would put it in the top ten grossing foreign films in the US 'All time' chart. Now back to the weekend performance. In it's ninth frame, after two consecutive weekends of slight drops in it's collections, Monsoon Wedding moved back into the top 20 with a 18% increase over the previous weekend. The film grossed $732,688 from 189 screens at a still good per screen average of $3877. The film still has the 3rd highest per screen average from films in the top 20 which is an indication that the film should be able to hold its collections for a few more weeks at the least. The total cume of the film so far now stand at $7,153,030.
The film is already by far the highest grossing Indian film in the US and overseas and is well on its way to soon becoming the highest grossing Indian film worldwide including India, period.

Weekly Box Office Reprt:
In it's 10th weekend of release 'MONSOON WEDDING' continued it's record breaking run at the US box office, grossing $724,658 from 239 screens at a healthy average of $3,032 per screen. The collections are down just 1% from the preceeding weekend and the total gross now stands at $8,128,796. At it's current pace the film should enter the 'All Time' US top 10 foreign language films in 2 to 3 weeks.

PS: I have been posting this info every week and have been wondering if anyone really cares for this info. So if you do, or don't, do post and let me know.

hey sk bhai, no intention of calling you dumb, but Monsoon Wedding is as Indian as '16th December' is, or for that matter several other films coming out soon are. The reason for that is that, 'Monsoon Wedding' is an ' iDream Productions ' film. It is an Indian company and is the same company that produced '16th December'. This info can be verified from here --> Monsoon Wedding Official Site

PS: Some time this weekend the film should officially enter the 'US All time Top Ten list' for Foreign language films.

All good things must come to an end and so must Monsoon Wedding's record run at the US box office. Well the run is not quite over yet, but the decline seems to have begun. In it's 11th weekend of release Monsoon Wedding grossed $593,527 down 18% over the previous weekend at an average of $2,337 from 254 screens. The film has now grossed a total of $8,991,903 which is enough to put it at number 10 in the All Time US Top Ten of Foreign Language Films. Although the collections have started receding the film should comfortably be able to cross the $10 million milestone before its run at the US box office ends.

Thats what i meant!! getting MAIN STREAM acclaim, that DID NOT HAPPEN with LAGAAN before OSCARS UNFORTUNATELY!! Do u know, how many people watch that programe and read their CRITIC reviews!!
IMO>MONSOON WEDDING is a simple film, very natural very authentic..VERY WELL DONE!!
BUTTTT! here it is! LAGAAN is a much bigger film, on much bigger scale and if marketed in mainstream should have gotten LARGER BUZZ!! I am still HOPEFULL!! for LAGAAN winning the OSCAR the way, AAMIR AND CT are PUSHING IT!!
Another thing, ABC>>GOOD MORNING AMERICA is doing OSCAR COUNTDOWN< I wish, AAMIR could manage by HOOK OR CROOK to get LAGAAN snippets played there every morning and should appear along with his director to talk and promote his film!! Is aamir listening!! I think he should be able to do that COURTESY CT!!! BUCK UP!! AAMIR!!

Ebert & Roper give Monsoon Wedding 2 thumbs up

and they both really liked the film, I watched their show today. Ebert was recommending the american audience to watch it

:baaa:

I wouldn't be surprised if Monsoon Wedding was more costly than Lagaan to make.

No I am not a distributor for the film or in any other way linked to it, although I wish I were. :)
By the way what in the world made you think that I was? Is it because of my posts regarding the box office results of the film?

Why, because I posted some box office info on a film? Personally I fail to understand the similarity or parallel that you have imagined up.
Waise what I am trying to figure out is, what do you have against Monsoon Wedding or anyone linked with it. Koi paise waise maar liye kya?

No harm done yaar. But of all people 'Taran Adarsh'? Now that's really hitting below the belt, would'nt you agree? :)

By the way my sole objective of providing the box office reports on 'Monsoon Wedding' is for those members who might be interested in the makings of a true box office milestone for Indian cinema. The film is also important as it also marks a true crossover appeal, which had so far eluded Indian cinema.
