Force-matted to create widescreen out of material never intended for widescreen projection ---- many pure 4:3 35mm movies were butchered this way ;-)

This shot I got from the beginning of them Super Digital authored DVD's for Yashraj. All the films there appear in the same format

I don't see the point in doing this as the amount of pixels that were originally on the DVD have been reduced to be included in the anamorphic frame (to enclose it around the black bars). Your TV should display the originally DVD as its converted here anyway so don't get the point of going to all this effort to do this. The 4:3 video used all of the pixels on the 720x480 available (assuming it's NTSC), while the anamorphic version uses ~557x480. Anything less than 1.85 AR video, it doesn't make sense to to place it in an artificial anamorphic frame.

^ i hear your point...but i wanted to re-encode my dvd9 anyway...this looked SO much better on my 60" plasma than the original dvd9. and if i've sacrificed a few pixels...so be it. also, just wanted to know if i could sucessfully and i did - was done more for self-satisfaction than anything else.

That's not true. While this kind of treatment is pointless for 4:3 material, since most TVs and DVD players will windowbox it anyways, 1.66:1 films benefit from anamorphic enhancement.

Yep you're right. :thumbs: I had to read up 1.66 anamorphic to understand how it worked in practice, it does give an increased anamorphic resolution;

The Bodega DVD is a PAL conversion of the first YRF release (with the dull colours).
