Have you thought of another scenario ?..

What if :-
Nz defeats Australia tomorrow (they bump up to 12)
and then they defeat India (they bump up to 16) and they
end up #2, instead (cos they would have defeated India on a H2H basis).

So theoretically India can be either #2 or # 3.. But I wish they remain as #2 and hope that They are able to defeat NZ so that NZ and not Kenya/SL (provided SL defeats Zim), end up #4. !

You are right, I did overlook that scenario. Actually more than overlook the situation, I was presuming that Australia will win it's Super Six stage match against New Zealand.

Anyhow now that Australia has beaten New Zealand, India's spot at No.2 is confirmed. Now all that remains is for Kenya to beat Zimbabwe, which would setup an India v Kenya semi-final. The other part of my prediction though is looking a little difficult now. For a Australia v New Zealand semi-final to be setup, India would need to lose to New Zealand, which is possible but certainly not desirable for us Indians, since we need to avenge our recent series loss to them. The other possibility for an Australia v New Zealand semi-final to be setup is for Zimbabwe to beat Sri Lanka.

since the finals will be on the slower pitch where the Aus-NZ match was played....they would be lethal....Mongia has to go for that game....

The finals is in Johannesburg - where India beatup on the Lankans, not at Port Elizabeth. As things stand now Australia will play in the first semifinal - Their third match at the same ground

Well one more reason for India not losing to NZ would be that they would again have to Face NZ in the semi-finals... ( I am discounting the fact that Kenya would beat Zimbabwe... highly unlikely... Kenya choke at the right point ! )... Kenya may have a chance at beating NZ, if they bat first and make Zim chase the runs !

The second semi final all boils down to winning the toss. The match is gonna be played at the Centurion ? (the 2nd semi-final ?) ... Hows the pitch there, when someone is batting second ?

Yeah true....the finals are at Jo'burg.....what was I thinking......which is a good pitch and we hunted well against the Lankans....

We played our pool game against Australia at the Centurion and we dont want to be reminded of that!!!! But its been a while since then...all the memories are hopefully erased and fresh ones being written....Also the West Indies-Canada games was at the Centurion and we all remember what the Windies did then too(as well as a certain Davison)..

More importantly, the India-Pakistan game was also at the Centurion. And I don't think anyone has forgotten that match :D .

Its at Durban. I think Durban had 3 matches - Bangladesh/Canda, England/India and Sri Lanka/South Africa. Depending on the weather it could be a huge advantage to the bowling side in a Day-Night match. But South Africa apparently did not have many problems batting second

The status of all the Super Six teams:

Australia: (20 points)
They will definitely finish first. The only team that can match them is India. And Australia will still be tops since they have beaten India.

India: (16 points)
The match against New Zealand is almost inconsequential. India will, in all likelihood, be second, irrespective of the result of their match against the Kiwis. The only possibility of this not happening is if Kenya beat both Zimbabwe (possible) and Australia (very unlikely). The Kenyans will then go to 18 points. Then, if India lose to the Kiwis, India could end up third. Either way, India plays it's semi-final in Durban on March 20 and the opponent is definitely not Australia.

Kenya: (10 points)
A victory against either Zimbabwe or Australia ensures them a semi-final place. Even two defeats will not put them out but they will have to wait for favourable results from other matches. (India should beat New Zealand and Sri Lanka should beat Zimbabwe).

New Zealand: (8 points)
The equation is straightforward for them. Beat India and they are in the semis or they are almost out. (They still have a chance only if Zimbabwe beats Sri Lanka but loses to Kenya)

Sri Lanka: (7.5 points)
They have to beat Zimbabwe or they are out. Even that win will not ensure them a place in the semis. (India has to beat New Zealand and Australia has to beat Kenya).

Zimbabwe: (3.5 points)
Even they have a chance now. But they have to beat Kenya and Sri Lanka or they are out. Then if India beat New Zealand and Australia beat Kenya, they are through.

Looks like it is going to be India and Kenya in the semis. Zimbabwe is all out for 133.

:) Looks good indeed

Possible scenarios.....

1.) India defeats NZ..... lines up with Kenya in the SF

2.) NZ defeats India... Lines up with Aus in the SF

3.) Only possible if Scenario 1 occurs... SL must defeat Zim, and then they line up with Aus !

Otherwise.. its Option 1 and Option 2 only ! (Sandeep Patil must be having butterflies in his heart right now !)

I would prefer for India to beat New Zealand badly so that they are confident in the semis and final. Losing to NZ doesnt serve any purpose since Australia is going to beat them anyway. So its better to have more wins to pump up the confidence. Also learning to handle Bond woud definitely help in handling McGrath and Lee

Amen to that....and there's also the little matter of putting Mr.Fleming in his little place as well....and I have a hunch that messrs.Srinath, Khan and Nehra will do to their batsmen what they are planning to do to us instead....GO INDIA

As much as I want India to beat New Zealand and avenge their humiliation from earlier in the year, the fact is as a strategy it might be a good idea to purposely lose to New Zealand, which would ensure an Australia v New Zealand semi-final. The logic behind this being that the chances of New Zealand beating Australia are much more than Sri Lanka beating Australia. This would then setup a likely scenario of an India v New Zealand final, where we can beat the hell out of them and have an even sweeter revenge. By the way since we would have lost on purpose to New Zealand, it would have no affect on our confidence wheras it would give New Zealand a false sense of over confidence.
There is ofcourse another way whereby this scenario could be played out without India losing to New Zealand, but is rather unlikely, that of Sri Lanka losing to Zimbabwe.

Anyhow either way India is bringing home the cup this year, so it all really does nto matter anyhow. :) :D :)
