My disc is only showing Dolby Digital Multi Channel no matter which option I choose from the Setup menu, unlike the below shot which was taken by another member which shows Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Ch. :( I am using a PS3 for BD playback .. anyone else have this issue?

Just realised the issue upon googling:

To get full DTSHDMA sound, you need to set your PS3 to Linear PCM. Now, the PS3 does not bitsteam it

Will try this when I get home tonight ..

Are you using HDMI for sound or are you by any chance using an optical cable to get sound from your PS3? If you are using HDMI, then there is absolutely no reason you should not be able to see the Dolby TrueHD 5.1 displayed. But in case you are using an optical connection, then the PS3 will not display any of the HD audio formats.

Also, the PS3 is and has been for a while, fully capable of outputing a DTS-HD MA bitstream. In any case that would have nothing to do with your situation here since we are dealing with Dolby TrueHD, which is something the PS3 has been able to bitstream from day one.

EDIT: The PS3 cannot bitstream any of the HD Audio codecs (DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD etc.). The PS3 can decode all the HD Audio codecs onboard and then output them as multichannel LPCM via HDMI only. To clarify, the PS3 can bitstream regular DD & DTS via HDMI and Optical.

Sorry for the confusion caused by my earlier incorrect statement.

Thanks Sanjay Bhai :)

I am using HDMI for Video / Audio to the TV. From the TV I am using Optical Out to the Receiver (Sony STR-K990) which has HDMI but only as passthrough. Now if I play any Dolby TrueHD disc via Bitstream the PS3 displays on the TV Dolby Digital: Multi Channel no matter which option is chosen from the disc menu. If I switch the PS3 to Linear PCM then the PS3 will display on the TV Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Ch. or Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch. the receiver however give 2 Ch. but if I change the modes it will give proper 5.1 sound. My receiver, I know is not the best whatsoever but for now it does a decent job. Any other hints or tips Sanjay Bhai?

I think you should connect HDMI out of PS3 to HDMI in of Sony receiver and HDMI out of Sony receiver to HDMI in of your TV.

Thanks VDC :)

I can do that but no point since my receiver only passes the Video / Audio through and does not do anything with it :(

Okay just found out something interesting ..

optical can only carry 2.0 LPCM

If you want TrueHD then HDMI to the receiver is what is required. Guess I am out of luck till I upgrade because my receiver only has HDMI passthrough .. Oh well, the sound is still good via Bitstream to the receiver using Optical, I am happy for now.

If your receiver has a HDMI connection than this is the proper way to connect your PS3, receiver and TV!! My Yamaha receiver only has HDMI passthrough but I still connect it this way. Give it a try and see what happens!!
