At the end of the day, the movie on these discs is still K3G :P

Exactly my first thought, couldn't they have picked a better movie to showcase this kind of transfer

K3G had been enormously successful in Germany, while most of the other releases of Indian movies were not that well off. I suppose K3G is the only Indian movie of which a re-release would be profitable.
The REM Dil Se DVD does not have a German Dub. But in Germany most people do not want to watch a movie with subtitles, so the sales figures of Dil Se are not high enough to even think of a re-release, I fear.

I do not have the DVD yet, but in a few days I will see its quality myself. :D

I'd say only the Excel release of Parineeta comes close to bettering it. So kudos to REM! It almost makes me forgive all those crappy DVDs they released before now.
And Dor... no?
I'd say Lagaan too, but clearly some bloggers have questioned the colour hue/tint on the same.

I forgot about Dor - yes, that's another one with comparable quality.

As for Lagaan, I certainly found the colour grading questionable. Sharpness should have been better too since it was meant to be HD-sourced.

Not to take away any focus from the REM dvd under discussion, I do consider Meenakshi, Dor, Parineeta, and Lagaan amongst the best ever Bollywood dvds (there are some others too).
Excel Lagaan bettered the previous Sony release in many ways -- no blemishes, no cropping whatsoever -- not even a centimeter of picture missing from any corner, amazing sound -- especially the mindblowing dts, fabulous and unique extras, lovely collectibles :-) -- all this, IMO, outweighed the "low" sharpness quotient in the PQ -- though if you watch this on nextgen players, you will enjoy PQ even more. Meenakshi too, I treaure for its amazing dts sound...

Since there's been a complaint, I should point out that the photograph I posted of the box's contents was borrowed from the German forum http://www.bollywoodforum.ch - sorry for the lack of credit, folks.

Neither DVD-Set has an English Dub.
I think they write "Hindi and English" on amazon because in the Hindi version they speak (as usual) some English among the Hindi dialogues, too.

Audio:
Dolby Digital 5.1 in Deutsch
Dolby Digital 2.0 (Stereo) in Deutsch
DTS Digital 5.1 in Deutsch
Dolby Digital 5.1 in Hindi

Is this a new transfer or just a better compressed version of an existing older digibeta?

If it's the latter, then this digibeta has never appeared before on DVD.

Comparison screenshots anyone?

If I remember right, the YRF DVD was cropped quite a bit from all sides.

I have the Sony BMG dvd -- I don't think that was cropped.

I remember specifically on the YRF DVD at the intermission, the entire frame shrinks and the text below states intermission. If you watch the frame as it shrinks, you'll notice more and more image come in from all sides before it all appears on the frame.

I should be getting the 3DVD set pretty soon. I'll post some screens of my work in a few weeks...

But above screens from the Sony version are highly saturated...horrid. I wouldn't touch that if you paid me.

I'm pretty happy with the YashRaj...but if there are other prints that are better, PLEASE LET ME KNOW...apart from the REM version I am buying...
