According to the DVD author: Super Digital Media the release date is 12-26-01. So the question becomes who has correct date the DVD author or the DVD right holders! Either way the DVD is coming out after X-mas. One would think that Yash Raj Films would want to cash in on the Xmas season.

Hey Jolly, what happened to your version of Gadar that you were supposed to be releasing with GVI?

Hello!

Thanks for your interest in Yash Raj Films. Note that although the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge DVD was intended to be released earlier, but to curb some "serious piracy issues" worldwide, now this DVD will be a New Year week release. We'll definately inform you through email, once this DVD is available to buy online from http://www.yashrajfilms.com.

With Warm Regards,
Yash Raj Films Helpdesk.

Exactly! This is what I told them in my reply email...Waiting around will only cause more people to get upset and buy the pirate version. Once people have bought the pirate very few will buy the original, especially since the cost is double than the original. The only people who might buy it will be people who bought DVD players at that time, have actually waited for the official release or want the original.

DEI is probably a helluva smaller operation than Eros, yet they consistently beat them. Does Eros let their bean counters do the DVD transfers for overtime pay?

Whenever it appears looks interesting set of extras - the most for a while on any Indian DVD. I wonder where they made-up the 6 track 5.1 audio from ???

What I dread the most, is that it might be that crappy pseudo 5.1 sound wherein they put the single mono track on all 5 channels. Super Digital has done that on a lot of their mastered DVDs. The movie itself was presented in Dolby SR in the theatres, and also the long available pirated DVD has Dolby Pro Logic sound (pretty good for non 5.1). Anyhow to answer your question, it is possible to use the original Dolby SR print and encode into DD 4.0 channels which they might be reffering to as 5.1 (6 if you add the 5 & the .1). On the other hand for once Yash Raj and SUper Digital might just have gone and done the right thing and used the origianl sound stems of the movie and remixed them for DD 5.1 (incorectly reffered by them as 6 channel). Just my 2 cents :)

Finally someone understands why Dolby SR is better than DD 5.1 in DDLJ's case.
