Meenaxi is not shot for scope from the clips I saw. I think 1.85.1 is the aspect ratio hence no black bars on widescreen tv.

Indeed it is 1.85:1..superb;y SHOT film..

SIMPLY SENSUAL DELIGHT FOR UR EYES!!!

ONE THING STRAIGHT, TABU is GREAT but she is NO MADURI!!

By no means this film is SUITABLE for MURDER ke SHEDAII/ and HWAS ke Pujari audience!

Well, who cares if m.F Hussain does not care!" I dont make films for mone" per HUSSAIN sahab!

rana i am not 100% sure if it is progressive but i think it is
i dont know about the disc media because the video store only had the yrf replica left and i didnt want to wait for the original disc.
btw, i have a DVI progressive dvd player and a HDTV so it might make my viewing of the movie different then yours. but so far it is the best dvd i saw in recent times i wished khnh was like this  i heard that MF Hussain was apart of the dvd making maybe thats why can sunny confirm if this is true

Image

16:9 Enhanced Presentation
5.1 Dolby Digital Sound
Optional English Subtitles
Digitally re-mastered from the original film
The Making of Meenaxi : 25 minutes of an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the film
Feature Film Running Time: Approximately 115 minutes

If it is progressive, the next question is, is it SD progressive or Prasad progressive?

Husain withdraws 'Meenaxi'

April 16, 2004 14:31 IST
Last Updated: April 16, 2004 17:27 IST

Artist-director M F Husain has pulled out his latest film Meenaxi: A Tale Of 3 Cities, from theatres all over India.

Husain was prompted to take this action following protests by some Muslim organisations who objected to one of the songs — Noorun-ala-Noor — in the film. Meenaxi stars Tabu, Raghuvir Yadav and Kunal Kapoor, and is set to music by A R Rahman.

The All-India Ulema Council yesterday demanded an immediate ban on the song, calling it 'blasphemous'. "The song, picturised on Tabu, contains words that are directly lifted from the text of the Quran. In the Quran, these words are used to define the persona of the Prophet. But in Husain's film they are being used to depict the physical beauty of the heroine."

The Ulema Council was supported by the Milli Council, the All-India Muslim Council, Raza Academy, Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Hind and Jamat-e-Islami, who claimed the song has hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

Husain, for his part, said, "I have told my distributor Yash Chopra to withdraw the film from public shows around the country immediately. Since I have not sold the film [which has been directed and produced by Husain] to anyone, including Chopra, I would like to stop the screening."

Husain added: "I did not make the film for money."

*** Catch Noorun-ala-Noor ..on DVD— in the film, one of the BEST choreopgraphed song imho!!

This song is the reason behind MF Hussain pulling the film out of theatres.
Either agreeing with religeous authorities or in Protest. He is not telling the reason. Just says, "It's my money, I can do whatever I want".
