sorry yaar, mixed up again, umar ka sawal hai, but I do remember, ? british Indian girl in Bond? may be hallucinating? ???

I don't remember any previous Indian girls in James Bond apart from the extras in Octopussy, which was partially filmed in India.

There was a girl who looked very much like an Indian who was in Die Another Day for once scene. She was playing the nurse at a London Hopsital where she had to resasitate Bond, then he wakes up and escapes after saying "thanks for the kiss of life".

Although the nurse looked Indian, I don't think she is as her name is Cristina Contes...I don't know if that is a goan name. She was born is Switzerland.

As for Persis Khambatta, she was Indian and Parsee and made a german kamasutra film back in the days. Unfortunately, she died in '98 of a heart attack.

As for Aish Rai in a Bond film, she doesn't have to wear little clothing, or kiss, or have sex with Bond, as Michelle Yeoh was a Bond girl who didn't do any of these. So I don't think she'll have to but because she was Miss World the director may try to get her to.

Anyway, didn't she kiss chandrachur singh and akshaye khanna in films already?

Mr Khiladi.. Michelle yeoh had nice see-through dresses !
And the best thing was, she could fight and do martial arts. I dont think Ash Rai can do either :)

The former for the fear of giving her fans a royal KLPD, and the latter cos she doesnt know what Kung-Fu is in the first place :D

I suppose Aish Rai can dance for us, they may try to do a bollywood 'stage performance' scene to introduce to westerners but would probably have it in English.
She can also walk up and down looking pretty, they get trained to do that a certain way for miss world.
I think they may have her as something like an Indian secret service woman who goes undercover as a dancer to infiltrate.

Plus, Aishwarya Rai in a bikini would look skinny, Bond girls are usually curvey, or whatever the fashion is for the time...

The very reason why she is scared to accept the role !

Don't write off Aish. She did model for a few european fashion shows before she got to Bollywood.

In die another day there is a scene where Bond kicks open the door of the Cuban bad guy, lying on the bed in her under wear reading a magazine is a 'cuban' woman, bond says something like hello and she replies. This actress is british born Indian, I forget her name but she was on the cover of Snoop magazine and had a big interview when the film came out. And revealed how she never got to go to sunny cuba instead they filmed it in some flat in london!

I think she'd be a great Bond girl. Unfortunately, they're gonna cast her as the ultra Indian Kamasutraized siren who does belly-dancing with snakes crawling all over her.

Ash not in Bond film, after all?

Subhash K Jha | April 16, 2003 10:35 IST

Recent reports of Aishwarya Rai being cast opposite Pierce Brosnan in the next James Bond flick appear to be unfounded.

Catherine McCormack of Eon Productions, which looks after the Bond franchise, said there never was talk of Rai or any other Indian actress being in the reckoning for the role.

Sources in Los Angeles confirm, "The next Bond film is far from production. Besides Pierce Brosnan, nothing else has been decided. Not even the script. How would they know if they require an Indian girl?"

A prominent Mumbai filmmaker reasons, "Why is so much fuss being made about Aishwarya Rai being in a James Bond film? What do Bond heroines have to do except show skin and get into Bond's bed with a gasp of gratitude? Would a Bond film do more for her than [Sanjay Leela Bhansali's] Devdas? Why are our stars so Hollywood fixated?"

Rai's first assignment outside India is Bride And Prejudice, the British film which will be directed by Gurinder Chadha The Bend It Like Beckham director has reportedly signed Kiwi actor Martin Henderson (The Ring, Windtalkers) to play opposite Rai.

She has Rituparno Ghosh's Bengali Chokher Bali. In Mumbai, she has leading roles in Rajkumar Santoshi's Khakee, opposite Akshay Kumar, and in debutant Samir Karnik's Kyun? Ho Gaya Na Pyaar, with Vivek Oberoi. She also has a cameo in Ketan Mehta's Aamir Khan-centric historical, The Uprising, which has Rani Mukerji as the heroine.

Roland Joffe's The Invaders, in which she stars with Oberoi, has not gone beyond the announcement stage. The filmmaker is looking at Mumbai producers like Pahlaj Nihalani for finance.

nothing more than a bloody publicity stunt. they should be ashamed of this disreputable behaviour - since they fail to understand that direct quotes normally mean that what they are saying can be attributed to the speaker...

speaks of the patheticness of Ms. Rai/her assistants/Mr. Oberoi (maybe??)..... :p

The Mail on Sunday had a caption on page three:

The British media seems to have some news that the Indian media does not. The Mail on Sunday had a caption on page three which had me in stitches. ‘So is this Bollywood babe the first virgin Bond girl?’ Pictures of Aishwarya Rai in Devdas glory and in a glam puss white evening gown were further headed by a line which went, ‘Devoutly religious ex-Miss World who will leave 007 shaken and stirred’.

‘Devoutly religious ex-Miss World'

2 contradictions in the same sentence. I don't think you can be devoutly religious and Miss World at the same time. The Mail on Sunday seems to have a weird idea concerning that all Indians are devoutly religious.

And come on, devoutly religous and Aishwariya Rai don't go together. If that's the case I suppose the Italian mafia must be saints for giving money to the church.
