Eaxctly the reason why people should buy pirates. Maybe the good folks at Vision DVd should get hold of every Video Sound releases and put them on 2 in 1. This way we can be assured that it will not stop working and in the same token throw a monkey wrench in the Dadlaneys scheme of things for screwing with the public. These 2 in 1 are the next best thing to the invention of wheels. We will have our pound of flesh yet!

I'm not against anyone buying a replicated DVD of known rotters like DCH or over-expensive DVDs with bad quality, but the picture quality on these 2-in-1s must not be very good. If it isn't pixellated, they probably have done some massive filtering of high frequency details on top of the filtering that was done to the original. I have seen DVDs of Monsoon Wedding and Lagaan at the Indian store that were obviously replicates, so your best bet would be to buy those titles at a non-Indian store like Best Buy or Future Shop so as to get the original and support the studio.

As for mediocre movies I'm interested in, I rent those. I really don't feel like paying even $10 for an Eros or VS disc or a pirated disc when I know I will be bitching about the quality. This is why I try not to buy the used DVDs (unless good quality) that the Indian store has.

Guys out of curiosity.. and furthering what Dragun stated... why pay for the Pirates... just download them from the net and watch them ... That way you are not getting ripped of by the original DVD manufacturers and also not getting semi-ripped off by the pirates.. !
I think UrbanLegend posted a site somewhere that lists you the ways as to how u can download Hindi movies.. That is the best way to avoid all the hassle of PAYING for these so called "economical" DVDs !

the problem is many of us don't want to watch movies on our computers, but rather on our TVs in the loving arms of our favorite couch. these 2 in 1 dvds aren't bad for those movies you may watch now and again, but don't want to shell out the big bucks for (i.e. yash raj originals). also, you don't have the problem of disc rot (at least no one has as yet).

I see they're not even trying to put two films together that are somehow related!

Sometimes they do stuff that is just unbelievable. While K3g/Mohabbatein combos are something that are worthwhile, I cannot see anyone buying 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili/Aaj ka Goondaraj'. I wonder who decides all of this.

The 'Dil ka Rishta/Dum' 2 in 1 are both from the pirate versions. I've seen it and it sucks. My local grocer seemed to think its a good idea but is now backing off from buying 2 in 1s of brand new flicks. By the way, I've seen rushes from the 'Kabhie Kabhie/Silsila' combo and the quality is excellent.

cant be ... Both films were made from Beta masters and hence interlaced and add to that further compression ( reduced bit-rate)... will give you even more pixellation/ artifacts ! (of cos depends on what kinda TV set you have)

the kabhi kabhi/silsila combo is probably worth it as not many of us want to pay $18.99 US for crappy yrf originals.

$18.99 US = approx. $28.5 CDN, which means you'd pay about $57 CDN for the originals.

i'd rather buy the 2 in 1, save $42 CDN and deal with a video quality which is less than the already crappy original.
