Is the film any good ?

imdb: "Mani Ratnam's much-hyped "village thriller" turns out to be just a headache. Great music by AR Rahman is completely wasted (though well picturised) in this awful film, as is Salim Ghouse. Bad dialogue, bad screenplay, bad direction...Bad sums up this film. "
:oh:

Film is pretty old, 1993 according to IMDB.

Is that girl? anu agrewal?

Yup! that is anu indeed. There was a hindi version (dubbed) to be released some time ago. They even released the dubbed music, the hindi version was to be called Chor Chor. Anyone remember that? What happened to it?

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't comment properly, but from the bits and bobs I have seen (read a couple of songs) it seems like an ordinary mono track encoded in 5.1 - no pseudo shit, just the front speakers are used, with no surround sound activity. Will confirm once I've seen the movie.

That is fair!! That is the minimum remix hollywood will give u too, front 3 channel seperation, with no surround activity!!It should be respectable remix imho!!

BTW! BTF has been remastered into 5.1 , the added surround info, esp in III, I liked it!!

True, I agree that it's better than psuedo 5.1, but whats the point? Why didn't they just leave it as mono? Surely that would save space on the disc (that's a wild guess - correct me if I'm wrong).

Yes!! they could have, if they were able to give a better PQ?

But with this BAD video, it might be just only consolation to listen to REHMAN's music in DD, remix...must be better?

I have CD, u have film and cassette!

I have never heard any true stereophonic remixes of mono Indian films. Did Sholay originally have a stereo mix? Surely with Thiruda Thiruda being such a recent film the original stems of sound effects and dialogue exist and a remix could be done. The music, of course, does exist as multitrack masters.

If you haven't heard the songs, you should rent this movie or get the cassette/CD. This is one of Rahman's best soundtracks, and I still listen to it from time to time. The Thiruda Thiruda CD has a wonderful acapella song "Raasathi," which is not on the Chor Chor CD. The Chor Chor CD, however, includes the Theme Music. It also includes two short, inconsequential songs, "Jor Lagaa" and "Chor Chor."

IMHO Thiruda Thiruda is ARR's best album. So much innovation and variety in one album. The movie was ok...certainly not Ratnam's best.

I don't have to put my 2 cents to tell you guys how bad this DVD looks.
I know I am going to get flamed if I say Ayngaran DVDs are not so much better than EROS, VIDEOSOUND in general. This is all hyped publicity for Ayngaran. Most of the disks have lot of aliasing problems along with excessive DVNR problems

I wouldn't go so far as to say they aren't much better than Eros or Video Sound, but some discs like 12B and Kannathil Muthamittal looked pretty good on my 35" 4:3 TV. Ayngaran is better at dark scenes than Eros and Video Sound, but they do have a lot of room for improvement, as the Thiruda Thiruda screenshots indicate. Hopefully Ayngaran will soon be on par with DEI. I really want to know what the hell happened in the process of creating the transfer that it looks like that.

Dragun,
I respect your opinions. I don't want to contradict you but when you blow up the size of the image obviously you can see the problems, which are inherent to their authorizing process. Even though I sound crazy by saying this but I had to say it, some of the EROS disks even look better than a typical Anyangra disks in my setup (mostly some Pseudo progressive stuff).

Again I invite our desi's who live around Columbus, OH to check out my projector based setup.
