Possibly the result of little people getting too much attention.

All the Brits in Lagaan were 2-bit actors who are showing their true place on the celebrity ladder.

Hmm.. the book im actually reading.. the actors were not real actors but just amateur cricket players who played for some local team in england!! He doesnt really complain about his treatement on set, but makes comments on everything from the "hole in the ground as a toilet" and the "mutated mosquitos!" but that is expected from a english guy, at the end of the day its a clash of civilisation!! but Chris England doesnt seem to complain too much, because all he wants to do is play cricket, and isnt too bothered the conditions he lives in!! As for Rachel Shelly, i think it is expected because she is a women and every 28 days her hormones take over her senses and makes her moan :bash: The book is definately not written in a positive manner, but in a much more humourous manner, which is what i wanna read and not Marketing crap, which we may get from "the spirit of lagaan!"

You can actually buy this book from Amazon, and i`d recommend it guys.. so go and buy!!

she complains she is not a trained dancer etc etc, just goes to show how versatile our girls are! the english musical is long since dead so these actors don't have those skills.....aamir picked c list actors who are complete unknowns in the uk, at the asoka premier shelly was ignored by virtually everyone but made sure the press outside got interviews, she was the last one to go in and stood talking for a very long (desperate amount of time) whereas all the real actors whisked they're way in.........at the aamir khan spirit of lagaan talk a lot of the english actors were in the audience and talked favourably about their experiance

That is exactly the point I made earlier on guys. It is about a clash of cultures and civilisations. The problem is that the goras think their culture and civilisation is far more advanced, and the rest of the world is backward.

If an asian guy was to say to a gora, I don't drink and I don't go clubbing, the gora's response is "get a life." What the #### does that mean. There is more to life then just getting pissed all the time. I don't really think much of a culture where people depend on alcohol so much, their women are so loose.

I think Lagaan showed that their women were randies even back then. Elizabeth defied her brother and destroyed his career, for the sake of an Indian guy who she did not know, all she knew is that she wanted to get him into bed. Lets face it she wasn't doing this out of pity for the villagers, the fact that they were being cheated by the Raj, no she just wanted this bloke in bed. Fuckin' gorees.

That make me laugh out loud in the middle of drinking water. I have no cue why.

Regarding the pending discussion, I think these are all facts we know... about how culture clash usually occurs because of ignorance and ego.

Btw, to the author of the book, may I add that India actually knows how to produce good musicals? I'm sorry, but I just saw Chicago, and I just didn't like it. Give me even KKKG over that any day.

Btw, if it's that bad in Britain, try the US. It's just not a good sight at all... people here are so ignorant about Indian culture; they get their views on life from the Simpsons. Ugh. (Okay, I exaggerate, but these are the types of people I grew up around).

Haven't seen Chicago yet, but the songs in American musicals arise from the situations, whereas the songs in Indian musicals are often a break from the film itself. Many times there is a weak pretense for the songs, such as a vacation or honeymoon in Switzerland. There really are some great American musicals, such as the Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers films (awesome dancing), the Busby Berkeley films (wonderful merging of camera and choreography), and the Gene Kelly films such as Singin' In the Rain. I can't stand the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, though. But I'd rather watch Sound of Music than K3G.

LOL, I'm recalling the deleted scene when Apu was living with the Simpsons and he rents an old Hindi movie. It starts with a girl singing, "La la la la la, I'm in love with lonely Johnny." Then the next scene is a guy breaking through a window and a fight scene.

Apu: This film made every Indian critics' top 400 list.

<movie>

Homer: It's funny because their clothes are different from our clothes. Look at what they're wearing!

I've got to respectfully disagree about Chicago. It was a wonderfully realized version of the stage production. Comparing bollywod musicals to hollywood musicals is comparing apples to oranges... sure, they may share som similarities, but too much of what bollywood is about is getting people to switzerland for a sang-and-dance. ONly rarely does the opposite happen nowadays(lagaan, alai payuthey, kannathil muthamittal, dil chahta hai, etc..).
