Sanjay..Do you read the film reviews in Stardust ? Its been ages since I read a stardust mag. How do you find the reviews there ?... And Cine Blitz and Femina ?... I remember Bhavana Somayya once made a very critical review of a film in the magazine "G"... I forget which film it was... But i followed up her reviews with responses from readers and they literally barraged her with comments.... ( clearly it goes to show their inbuilt biases).. but surprisingly that film actually did flop !

Nahi yaar it has been ages since I read any of the film magazines. I think the last one I read was when I was living in the US, way back in 1992.

One must admit, the biggest profit margin was given by the movie Raaz in 2002 and hence is # 1 Box Office Success.

Agreed, and I don't think anyone is debating that. But what has that got to do with the a "Best of the Year" List? Or are you also suggesting that most successful should also automatically qualify as 'The Best'?

No. I am not saying that. What I said was that as the title suggests, those are Taran's Picks. Every one has their own preferrence. For example, my 6 year old's best movie pick is Pokemon.

I am with Rana 100%. They are Taran's Picks just like somebody from AVS forum picked Battlefield Earth as his no 1 favorite of all time.

Add me to the people who agree with Rana. The only thing more boring than Taran's review is people copying the article to zulm and adding some foul words like 'ass' 'donkey' etc. This is continuing since a long time.

People should learn to ignore his reviews/articles if they think he is doing a bad job. Or atleast discuss it without resorting to name calling

Thanks for agrreing with my views Jag, regarding Taran. But, I am sorry for not agreeing 100% on your views about copying the whole articles. I know it can be termed illegal posting, but I like the availabilty of the article right there. It saves a click. Not a big deal, but for many of us who view zulm posts from their work (they shouldn't, but they do), every action is recorded and # of clicks are counted. At one time (a few years back) I got a "Heavy User" tag and I came to know that it was questioned. Fortunately, no one asked me.

I think you still miss the point. The point being, why does he list Raaz as the most succesful movie while listing his 'Best of the year' list.
Quote:
By Taran Adarsh

Biggest Hit : Raaz

Best Director : Vikram Bhatt (Raaz, Awara Paagal Deewana) & Rajkumar Santoshi (The Legend of Bhagat Singh)

Best Actor : Ajay Devgan (The Legend of Bhagat Singh & Company)

Best Actress : Aishwarya Rai (Devdas)

This clearly shows his frame of mind, wherein success equates quality or else he ought to have stated 'Best Film' for Raaz instead of "Biggest Hit".

It's crap. :p

I'm still surprised so many people take TA seriously - if he says he likes a film, he'll argue until he dies that the film is a hit, and vice versa.

I guess the only way to really know if a film is successful or not is to follow the trade papers in India - not sure how reliable these are though.

Isn't it / wasn't it Taran Adarsh who runs "Trade Guide". "Trade Guide" and "Film Information (run by ----Naahta)" are/ were the two main Film Trade publications in India.

I think the dude is okay, at least he calls a spade a spade. One review which sticks out the most is that of 'Sur' in the review of which he says there was some excellent acting and good scences and music, but the whole shebang was let down by a 'weak script'. That review couldn't have been more bang on. Many of ther reviews on other sites just banged on about how good the film was (incorrectly-in at least one major respect-the haphazard script).

Indian reviewers in general tend to say things like "weak script" without explaining WHY it is weak.

There is always something wrong with a film to him. He's such a biased kamina!
