.. can't believe Universal did anamorphic menus yet the main video feature is non-anamorphic

...pretty ironic isn't it?
BTW, the behind-the-scenes screenshots look familiar, I remember watching it on Bravo. Its pretty insightful and I guess would be helpful to the western audience understand what the movie is about.

Through out the film, Eng subs are burnt in!! and sec set of subtitles, come on the top!!

BTW!! BEWARE! :baaa:
Most of the INDIAN sites are selling DVD authored by VISTA,
and SPECS show DD 5.1 only !!

So I dont know, online indian stores were shipping a week or so before release! So I dont know, Is it like ASOKAr1, we have a bOOTLEG PAL to nTSC region one dvd and another ORIGINAL NTSC by UNIVERSAL!!
Just make sure, what u get!
Comparing Ali's R2 review shots and mine R1 shots, My humble VISION, declares, Exactly, same PQ?

Then, what is the DIFF between, ANAMORPHIC R2 vs NON ANAMORPHIC R1 ..VIDEO!???Only time will tell??
???

R1 dvd..has ADDITIONAL DTS sound track, that to my HUMBLE EARS sounds, more cleaner and dETAILED as Compare to DD 5.1( while DD, by no means is much! Inferior, it is really Good!!!)

Just be sure! what are u buying out there!!! :baaa:

Question:
If I wanted to buy this movie, should I buy this version, or is there some other version upcoming (The reason I ask is I remember reading about a rental version vs. a retail version).

Looks like the best deal on this DVD if you dont mind previewed DVDs is to buy it for 9.99 after renting it. They have the 'buy previwed DVDs that you have already rented for 9.99' special. Monsoon Wedding is part of the special

For me the one thing that irks me the most about this DVD si the 'burnt in' subtitles. Universal really screwed up big time with this DVD. I pray Unversal never picks up any other Indian titles in the future.

PS: I hope everyone here has written directly to Universal and expressed their displeasure over the Monsoon Wedding DVD and the shabby treatment they have given it. I think this is very important so that Unviersal knows that we do care about Indian films and how they are presented on DVD.

Is that Univeral's fault? As far as I understand, all versions had burnt-in Hindi subtitles. Who do we blame for this? Mira Nair (I doubt it) or USA Films?

It is most definately Universals' fault since they are the ones who produced the DVD. As for the film being released only with 'burnt in" subtitles, that is just 'BS'. I saw the film 2 times in the theaters and at neither of the screenings were there any subtitles at all. Also if this was the case, could you please explain the R2 DVD which does not have 'burnt in' subtitles. Also even if all theatrical prints had the 'burnt in' subtitles, Universal could easily have made a new print from the original negatives without the subtitles. I am sure for a company the size of Universal this ought to be no big deal and anyhow I would assume that unlike the Indian DVD companies Universal is not using theatrical run prints to make their DVDs.
