I liked it quite a bit actually. Arsh, I would say that you can go ahead and buy the DVD unseen - it's definately the best movie out since Company and one of the many good movies worth owning this year.

I just saw it last night (in a half-filled auditorium at Woodside Cinemas Toronto). The audience was laughing like crazy, indicating that it may be a big hit (tonight's shows WILL be sold out). Amitabh Bachchan was very crazy and hillarious while Sanjay finally broke out of his dramatic strut and was let loose. He actually managed to be the lead this time and didn't feel like a stiff sidekick like he does when he pairs with Govinda or Salman Khan. He actually managed to overshadow everyone (even Big B which says a lot). Aishwarya looked really pretty (but wasn't given much to do) while Ajay Devgan impressed in a rare comic-outing. He actually has good comedic-timing and I hope to see him in more of these roles later on. Overall, the film was quite fun and entertaining, and managed to be better and funnier than Analyze This. Even a western audience will like this one so I highly recommend everyone to go see it. (And yes, the best segment (like Analyze This) was again when Big B pretends to be Sanjay's elder brother.)

This is a typical David Dhawan movie, and I would say his best film since Bade Miyan Chote Miyan!! Can't wait for Yeh Hai Jalwa now...

As if that is such a big deal. 'Chote Miyan Bade Miyan' was an absolutely crap film like almost all David Dhawan films other than maybe one or two at most.

David Dhawan's best flicks are the following (IMO) :-

Shola aur shabnam
Aankhen
Coolie No 1
Judwaa

His mediocre films are :-
Raja Babu
Hero No 1
Haseena Maan Jayegi

If anyone thinks that DD can actually give a decent film then they are badly mistaken. Aankhen was just a fluke and I believe that after that DD never did again raise to that standards...
Aankhen had everything, a typical masala film which was catered to a society still reeling from the Harshad Mehta scam. So it made sense. And all in all, Govinda was best in that film !

I think I will go and watch Analyze this instead (rent it from the public library :D free you see ). I cant stand Amitabh in such a lousy role for such a lousy film !

I personally enjoy mindless hilarity so im going to watch this film. I go to watch movies to be entertained. I dont care about plot or whatever, if it does the business, then it serves its purpose and should classed as a good movie in my books.
I like DD films in particular the ones named above
i.e Judwaa, Aankhen, Shola Aur Shabnam.
He is a top man who doesnt care what other people think. He appreciates his own work and has kept on going no matter what people have said.
Ajay Devgan once said that he would never do a DD film and slagged him off. what has mr devgun done now?
Lots of top stars signed up for this flick and they must have a good reason for doing so. I have an Ash wallpaper from this movie and she looks fantastic. I hope the dvd is good.

Me too!!, deewana Matana was one of BETTER ones!! as far S. K nath, aapki raii sar aankhon par!
But I think nobody ever claimed on the forum or I think any where in the world with reasonable mental status that DAVID DHWAN is a GREAT or even GOOD or REASONABLY good FILM DIRECTOR!!?? :baaa:

Some of his crap, is UTTER SHIT!! not even viewable!IMHO,
While a few flicks had its good ,lighter moments!that me and probably some other here have enjoyed from those mindless flukes of his, in our mindless moments, when we just want to look and be happy, renting our brains out to do some thing else!!

I think a couple of his FLUKES even pleased you in those moments too, as you mentioned!

But there are few more people including my self who can be out of our minds for some more times and occasions!!to enjoy DD??

While there may be a lot, who are NEVER in their mind and ENJOY all DD flicks and THINK TOO, that he is a GREAT DIRECTOR!!

But you can not ignore that in this so diversified BOLLYWOOD WORLD he has made a NICHE for himself as MASTER OF MINDLESS FLUKES!! ha ha :baaa: :p

I am glad PREDATPR"S MUM is hybernating for this thread!! lately have been active like a Vampire BAT at night!Predator!!

Just GOT MAI, from M.Ali, Akram, CEO PB(INDOLINK)

Subject: Hum Kisise Kum Nahin - Avoid it all costs!

Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 19:05:18 -0400

Guys and gals:

Just got back from watching HKKN and posting the review. While I'm happy to say that I've written a scathing review for the first time in a while, I must admit I feel quite depressed having wasted nearly $40 on tickets (took my family) and food for the experience. It was the first time I saw a Hindi movie at the cinema in months, and this was the experience.... jeez. :)

Ali.

Here is Ali's review:He honors this DD flick with 2.5*/5*,Not GOOD!

For a nearly three hour movie, the experience is torture. The idiotic action and melodrama in the last half-hour, particularly, insists upon dragging itself out to no end. Manmohan Singh´s framing of virgin Malaysian locales, the tacky Rastogi house sets, Anu Malik´s peppy tunes, boring dance sequences or Aishwarya´s beauty, nothing can relieve the tedium.

We are forced to reach one of two conclusions having watched David Dhawan´s Hum Kisise Kum Nahin. Either the man needs a one-year break to regain his creative faculties or his talent has disappeared. For his sake and ours, I hope the former is true.

:baaa:
Now where is BH with his input?
I am glad I decided to watch on DVD and LAFF @home! :bangbang: :ffs:

Movie Review: Hum Kisise Kum Nahin
- by Viral Bhayani (eBolly.com)

Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Sanjay Dutt & Ajay Devgan

Producer - Afzal Khan

Director - David Dhawan

Music - Anu Malik

Lyrics - Anand Bakshi

Score: *

"Yeh Kya Pakka Raha Hai/Yeh Kya Pakka Raha Hai" is what you will be humming=
after 30 minutes of this
movie. Aptly titled Hum Kisise Kum Nahin – this movie is just like any othe=
r mundane Hindi film. As usual
this movie too is inspired from a Hollywood movie but that is not important=
as the treatment is still typical
filmy so the inspiration can be disregarded.

David Dhawan movies are stupid and funny, this one tries to be funny but he=
y this one really does not
make you laugh like it will for the initial first half. After some time you=
are sick and tired of watching Sanjay
Dutt and Amitabh Bachahan who have nothing new to offer in this flick.

Bad music your only solace is the gorgeous Ash who dances well but has litt=
le scope to act in this film.

Coming to the story actually there was good scope for this film as the init=
ial first half is funny and full time
pass but later it becomes too repetitive to enjoy the film.

Munnabhai (Sanjay Dutt) is a dreaded underworld in Mumbai. The police are a=
ware of his whereabouts
but fail to get proof to arrest him. Once when Munnabhai is beating up off =
his foes, he sees Komal
(Aishwarya Rai). Munnabhai is smitten by her beauty so much that he stars v=
isualizing here wherever he
goes or in whatever he does. So much that the crime rate in Mumbai reduces =
because the big don is in
love!

His men get worried and decide to take him to Dr. Rastogi (Amitabh Bachchan=
). The doctor realizes that
it's a love virus and nothing else so he advices Munnabhai too woo the girl=
some how, not realizing that
the girl Munnabhai has fallen for is nobody else but his own sister.

Munnabhai is shy to express his love to her at the same time does not want =
to forcefully pick her up from
her home and get her at his place. The problem is Raja (Ajay Devgan) who is=
liked by Komal. Raja is a
local riff-raff doing nothing much except working in a bowling alley as an =
instructor. The doctor is ignorant
of their love affair. Munnabhai makes the doctor's miserable because Komal =
does not respond to his
advances as per advice given by the doctor. Doctor relaises that the don is=
in love with his own daughter.

Doctor takes Komal to Malaysia where he wants his daughter to get married t=
o a wealthy doctor's son.
Raja too joins them though doctor is not aware of their affair. So the batt=
le between Raja and Munnabhai
begins in Malaysia and they both fight to get Komal.

On the acting front Ajay Devgan has just taken this movie without even look=
ing at the script since he is a
good friend of Afzal Khan, the maker of this film. Big B is fun but after s=
ome time he gets repetitive.
Sanjay Dutt excels as the don while Ash look great but has very little scop=
e to act.

Very average film nothing we would recommend

Saying a film is one of David Dhawan's best does not mean much. After all 'his best' is only mediocre at best. In his entire career I think David Dhawan has made only a couple of decent movies, as for the rest of his films the less said the better. He has to be the most over rated director in Bombay that is if that position is not already occupied by Subhash Ghai.

David Dhawan films rated according to me:

3.5 stars out of 5
1) Bol Radha Bol
2) Hero No. 1 - Although not a patch on the classic 'Baawarchi' from which it is obviously inspired from.

3 stars out of 5
1) Swarg
2) Haseena Maan Jayegi

2.5 stars out of 5
1) Gharwali Baharwali
2) Deewana Mastana
3) Shola Aur Shabnam
4) Coolie No. 1
5) Aankhen

2 stars out of 5
1) Raja Babu
2) Chal Mere Bhai
3) Biwi No. 1

1.5 stars out of 5
1) Judwaa
2) Chote Miya Bade Miya

1 star out of 5
All the rest

Sorry to rub it in but you kinda deserve it. Why you ask? Well anyone who would spend that kind of money and take his family to a David Dhawan film deserves all the torture. Although I do empathize with your family. :) :) :D :D :D

Yeah the 'good reason' as always in the case of Bollywood is MONEY. Also since when has the inclusion of a lot of stars guaranteed any sort of quality in Bollywood?

I find David Dhawan's films to be very enjoyable, actually. Not all, but some of his stuff. Haseena Maan Jayegi, Bade Miyan CHote Miyan, and Deewana Mastana were absolutely hilarious, and I absolutely loved them. Even Judwaa was pretty funny. I'm quite a fan of some of his work...

This movie sucked. I had the displeasure of watching this on the bigscreen. I'm quite the Big B fan, but he needs to come in better movies. Yet again, David Dhawan squanders a large starcast, a big budget, and a top tier music director....only snippets of this movie were funny, and the second half dragged on like a bad opera. DD should be taken out back and shot to put him out of his misery.
