You need Optical or Coaxial cables to get any kind of digital sound from your dvds. If your receiver can't decode DTS, then you won't be hearing anything in DTS. I recommend that you buy a receiver that does both Dolby Digital and DTS and then get one of the digital sound cables (coaxial/optical) to connect it from your dvd player. As I mentioned above don't forget to activate DTS option in the dvd player menu.

Also, TV speakers won't do. You need atleast 5 speakers and sub to enjoy DTS.

I don't know if this is a common feature, but my Sony DVD player has a setup option to turn the optical connection on or off.

hey kuttappan,
how is your dvd player connected?
connect your video out from dvd player to video in of your tv (either composite/rca connection or s-video connection)
connect your audio out from dvd player to audio in of your receiver (either optical or digital cable conneciton)
and watch your dvd's on one of the direct video channels on your tv (where you can't change channels via tv remote), not where you watch your regular video channels, like cable (where you can switch channels by pressing channel buttons on tv remote)
this way sound will only come out from your surround speakers and not your television, unless of course you have your cable running through your dvd player, then through your vcr, then to tv (uhf/uhf connection); then you can hear sound through your tv speakers when watching dvd on regular video channels and your vcr is also turned on (not the way to watch the dvd's)
about your dts
looks like you don't have dts decoder neither in your receiver nor in your dvd player, so it is not possible for you to hear dts sound on your system
hopefully this helps
everybody please correct any mistakes in these instructions :baaa:

Thank You guys for trying to help me out.

I am going to solve this problem by buying a sony sound system with DTS, and a new DVD Player. I am going to get it by next weekend.

THIRUDA THIRUDI is also out on DVD

There are DVD players with built in DTS and DD decoder and
analogue outs for all channels (3 stereo). Actally there
are players that play DVD, DVD-Audio and SACD all formats
with analogue in 6 channels (the same with digital outs is
a totally other issue, though. :-))

I finally got to watch the Kaaka Kaaka dvd. I thought the movie was very entertaining. The villian was such a bad ass!.
Cinematography was very Hindi movie like with lot of wide angle shots. Editing was top notch by Anthony. I thought Surya and Jhoythika were excellent. The censor board cleaned up alot of bad language, since they know what is best for everbody.

DVD PQ: 4/5 A very nice transfer. But there is a lot of grain in the bright scenes.

DVD SQ: 5+/5 The DTS ES track on this disc blows away every other Indian movie 5.1 tracks out of the water. It was very crisp and clean with no distortions. DTS track is flagged ES matrix but the Dolby Digital track is not flagged for EX. My only complaint is that I wish the gunshots had a little more punch to them.

The making of feature was very good. The best extra is the commentry by Goutham Menon. He goes into every detail and rarely hold anything back.

The film grain is caused by the type of negatives and 35mm film coating (3M) Tamil film-makers are now using. The grain when passed through Prasad telecine causes the grain problem to be apparent. We have tried everything to remove the grain but to no avali. However with the setting on your TV you can turn down the grain by lessening the sharpness button. That is how I over come the grain on my progressive player.

Vow, you have a progressive player now.

BTW, sunny, you never clarified if Kaaka Kaaka is Progressive or Interlaced?? You mentioned it as Interlaced once and Progressive at another time??

Then, it's a MUST HAVE DVD for all Indian DVD fans/ collectors. It's the first Indian DVD that is not only features DTS (it's even DTS 6.1), it also is anamorphic as well as Progressive.

Is the transfer made from the camera negative?
If the grain is ON grain then it should be left in.
Removing it will cause severe DNR artifacts unless
you hire Lowry Digital which costs more than half
the original film itself, or so. :D
