I ordered this BD. Critical evaluation as soon as I get it (in 1080p on 3.5m wide screen).

I am not being negative, Eros rip VHS to DVD and if that same VHS to DVD print will go on to BLU RAY then I dont see the point in buying bluray you are just better off with the VHS print saves money and better PQ then the DVD

Rumours suggest that Spark will be re launching and releasing the Blu Ray of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam I just hope D/BEI will re launch

Hey come on all we want are a few simple answers to:
1. Is the stupid Eros logo still superimposed throughout the film?
2. Does the BD have the forced commercials and promos?
3. Are the player controls disabled during the promos, commercials etc., like the Eros DVDs?

Thanks.

1. No Eros logo
2. No forced commercials, movie start right away .. press menu for popup menu
3. There are no promos or commercials (like their dvds) so nothing is disabled it just jumps right into the movie

Sorry for the delay in answering .. been busy and didnt see this post either.

Thanks for the response and it sounds like good news so far. Now all we have to know is how good the video and sound are. Whether the video is truelly 1080P and also if the sound is lossless or not. Lossless sound is what I am personally looking forward to.

good news!as long as it lasts! unfortunately wont be long! So far DEI/EROS golden days only one dvd was remastered MPK, then rest due to high cost $$$ were just put through filters to remaster. Btw sound DD 5.1 carried over to BR was atrocious on SD though.

So this is not from the DI but a film element from the DI? There are no reel change markers on DIs.

"Blu-ray Disc" with SD encoding?
On eBay, I got an alleged Blu-ray Disc of the recent Japanese movie Sukiyaki Western Django. It appears to be NOT a Blu-ray Disc, but in trying to determine this, I've grown confused about the definitions.

The official Japanese Blu-ray release is, according to the only source I could find, an "AVC/MPEG-4" encode. This disc is MPEG-2.

If I turn off the upscaling on my PS3, the TV says the input is 720x480.
The disc plays in my Oppo DVD player.

The box -- a standard DVD case -- says "Blu-ray Disc" and has the blue swoosh logo...but it also says "DVD video", "DVD-9," and "Hi-Bit Edition." The DVD case comes within a slipcase, which includes an explanation of "Hi-Bit DVD" as what sounds like "SuperBit."

I'm now assuming that this is a bootleg, and that it's not, in any meaningful way, a "Blu-ray Disc." But, as I was looking through the big Blu-ray FAQ, it seemed as though there are things defined as, in the broad sense Blu-ray, with this SD output. And that there are DVD-9s that are in some way "Blu-ray."

In any case, this sure as hell isn't a "high definition transfer." And I'm ticked. But, before I raise hell with the vendor, I'm wondering whether it's somehow legal for this sort of release to be called a "Blu-ray disc."

Below is taken from Eros Website:
Mumbai / London, 4th March 2008: Eros International, the leading company in the Indian media and entertainment sector announced today that in response to strong global consumer demand; it will release smash hit ‘Heyy Babyy' to Blu-ray high-definition disc format on March 3rd. Eros continues to lead as the pioneer in Indian media and entertainment as this will be the first global release of a Bollywood film on Blu-ray disc format.
Eros' exciting slate of Blu-ray Disc releases will begin with Director Sajid Khan's ‘Heyy Babyy' starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan and Boman Irani, followed shortly by superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om.

Driven by its mission to provide the greatest quality and leading products to their customers, Eros International long ago shared a vision with director Sajid Khan to bring this technology to India as this presents the film as never seen before. ‘Heyy Babyy' has been mastered directly from the negative digital source under the supervision of Sajid Khan, with upgraded picture and sound. In addition to the film, the disc includes many extra features and a four hour in-depth documentary explaining everything about making a big budget Bollywood film. “The proven Blu-ray technology has allowed us to take our films to new heights, fully utilizing the larger capacity and interactive capabilities for an incredible all-new consumer experience," commented Sunil Lulla, President of Eros International India.

Blu-ray discs offer next generation menus, 50 gigabyte storage capacity and incredible interactivity as soon as you put the disc in the player. For example, while watching the movie, you can seamlessly go to the pop up menu and navigate special features - pop ups, scenes and interactive director or star commentary.

"We are confident consumers will be astounded by the level of entertainment that can only be achieved by using the maximum capacity of the Blu-ray Disc format. We will soon be releasing “Om Shanti Om” and many of our all time classics that will appeal to the ever growing market of Bollywood and Indian film fans around the globe," commented Marcus Stuart Vannini, EVP of Corporate Development & Eros New Media.

The “Heyy Babyy” Blu-ray discs are on sale and available immediately through http://www.erosentertainment.com and will be available shortly in retail stores throughout India, Canada, United States and United Kingdom.

Note the following:
We will soon be releasing “Om Shanti Om” and many of our all time classics that will appeal to the ever growing market of Bollywood and Indian film fans around the globe,"

Does this mean that SHOLAY will get released in Blu-Ray? :D

I only hope it does if EROS can do a decent job with it...I doubt that they will have any features with it :(
