The following DVD had a datacine transfer made from its Super 35mm Camera Negative, supervised by Gautham (Director). The widescreen matte is in accordance with the original theatrical showings.

The picture quality is 2.35:1 Anamorphic, with Dolby EX and DTS-ES soundtrack (mislabelled on the box and menus). It also features English, French and German Subtitles. Although the Indian censors deleted all the English swear words, the DVD restores them back on the subtitle track. There is also a director's commentary. However, none of the controversy are mentioned on this disc to avoid any legal wrangle.

Due to insufficient space on the DVD a second bonus disc was made. However, it only contains limited bonus materials.

The picture is sharp, but contains some compression problems due to lack of space (a 3hour film crammed with 1 DTS track and 2 Dolby tracks). However, it is limited to, and doesn't infringe on viewing. Touchwood, this will be rectified for the HD version.

Overall, its one of the better Indian commercial releases of 2006 (despite some flaws in its script) and the DVD compliments the film well.

Finally, I would not recommended this film for the faint hearted (nor for children) as the film contains strong graphic violence.

Despite Kamal looking over aged! Transfer looks amazing!

According to the director's commentary, Gautam wanted Kamal Hassan to do a film without any make-up and insisted on a natural look. It suits his character rather well, and adds to the film. I love the paunch stomach and bags under his eyes. Its different from the usual glamour seen in Indian Cinema.

Many thanks for the shots - the DVD does indeed look superb.

It's a shame the imposed censorship has to make the film seem so amateurish with the muted cursing and pixellating of the graphic scenes. Are the makers unable to re-edit the film properly at such a late stage, with either ADR or re-framing?

please do not take me wrong a critic of kamal!!I am a fan of this hugely competent institution, mostly!

You know I thought Sean pen, wont suit much in THE INTERPRETOR, but to my amazement, his role was so much suitably thought outand written and umpteen of Clint too!!

On the other hand in bollywood industry, actors like Anil, Govinda, and now aamir, sallu, sarook getting there refuse to take any thing less than tree running hero status! Jackie did it but he was not given any good roles, or rather possibly failed e. g Yaadein! and he became a filler!

I am not a big Gautam fan, but I will check this out for Kamal. I want to see a performance where he's not drastically changing his looks with make-up!

The cursing could not be restored in time for the DVD release as the director was busy with his next project (due feb 2007). He only had time for telecine supervision and commentary track. Sadly, the censors in India have final say, and the only way to achieve the director's original intention was via subtitling. The film has over 50 F-words (a high record for a Tamil film), and as you imagine the conservative censors was not too pleased with this.

The Pixilation idea was done to hide the naked body, and avoid further controversy. However, you can see the full uncut scene on disc two. Its quite gruesome, and takes away the performance from that scene.

Its improves on Kaaka Kaaka, in terms of script and production values, and is worth watching once. The soundtrack is also excellent

In the original film. Saw it couple of times (first hated it, second liked it, on DVD loved it).

DragunR2, dont set any high expectation. You will like it, though there are many noticable flaws.

I loved this movie but I cannot see it again. Some of the scenes were too disturbing for me.
