Bombay Boys
Monsoon Wedding (1/2 Punjabi/Hindi)
Split Wide Open
Everybody says I'm fine
The Mystic Masseur
Bhaji on the Beach
English, August
Snip
Bollywood Hollywood
Bollywood Calling

ABCD is different from American Desi and from what I hear it's quite a let down.

Hanif Qureshi's 'My Beautiful Launderette'

Can these Brit films be termed as Hinglish though, I wonder. There's a stray line of Urdu/Hindi used here and there, but that's all.....

I agree with Khiladi's suggestions, but I have to say that Bollywood Calling has to be one my my favourite films of last year. Its simply one of the best black comedy's made, the standard of acting is superb, Om Puri is electrifying and the American in the lead role is also superb. Simply, this film rocks.

Bollywood Calling was OK. Om Puri was great as usual, but I didn't think much about the American and the low-budget showed throughout the film. I especially like the female lead, not for her acting ability, but purely for her looks, and her soft voice (which may be dubbed) unfortunately she hasn't been in many other films.

I forgot to mention another film Rockford, directed by the same guy who did Bollywood Calling, Sam & Me by Deepa Mehta and also there were some Merchant-ivory films with Shashi Kapoor such as Heat & Dust, The Householder, Bombay Talkie, In Custody, etc, but these films could be quite boring to some people.

On a less serious note there's also Kama Sutra : A tale of love, which you may have missed but I won't recommend as it was a dreadful film!

Perizaad Zorabian is the actress....she's acted in "NAMASTE" in case you are interested and in the tele serial 'HUM PARDESI HO GAYE' on SONY (I think). She also appears frequently on a MAZAA ad on TV Asia....she studied acting in New York and is starring as Indira Gandhi in a Beijing production.....search Rediff for relevant article.....

Rockford is certainly very good movie, not great but well made with decent laughs directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. He also did Hyderabad Blues.

Bombay Boys is one of the worst movies I have ever seen ( not entirely true since I did not finish the movie :D ). I can probably make better movie with camcorder ! I don't know how N. Shah made it in this bomb. Bad Acting (except N. Shah) , Worse Script and worst direction! Cameraman was I think 16 yr old amateur. There are so many Indian movies with bad script and bad story etc. etc. - but this one has very low production values too.
Ironically the movie is about making B movies !

I've only ever seen Bombay Boys on the Eros DVD - and it seems a poor film when you watch it like this. Much of the wit and charm is lost in the poor dub done on this DVD. Original English language version is suppose to be much better. Orginal Bombay Boys thread;

Bollywood Calling on the other hand is very much under rated and panned unfairly - I thought this movie was in a class of its own. Pity muppets at Eros ruined the DVD.
