I think you overlooked the question mark. I think the question regarding 5.1 sound, still needs answering.

true! that needs answering still...

BTW, I watched the cablewalla screening Apne VCD -- there were comedy scenes not shown in the theatre on the VCD... For example, when "Gaurav" says he wants to leave to meet his father, the very next scene in theatres is him arriving in Bombay --- but in the VCD, this is preceded with a small comedy scene.

Is Shemaroo available in India in retail stores?

BTW Moser Baer Apne may not have any subtitles or anamorphic pic. We can only hope that 5.1 is genuine and there is very little cropping of image.

Rana brother please confirm if you have bought a 2-disc version from Moser Baer -- I am aware of only 1-disc released by Moser Baer for Rs.49.00

I just bought the single disc Moser Baer...
Findings:
1) Anamorphic video (though not 2.35:1 but cropped)
2) True 5.1 powerful sound - YES!! And a 2.0 option too!!
3) English subtitles :-)

4) No extras (except startup trailers of other movies)

I'll comment on Moser Baer audio etc as soon as I get back home (Monday).
But, I'm surprised to see it's unbelievable MSRP. You posted M B single disc listed @ Rs 49 ($1) and my 2 disc pkg MSRP (incclusive of all taxes) is Rs 149 ($3) (althogh I pd $ 18 Cdn; no regrets if it's print checks out being better than Shemaroo as the SSs show).

Just finished watching the Moser Baer single disc...
Sound - nicely loud!
And true 5.1 separation!!
All in all -- quite good!

I will forgive Moser Baer for the mincemeat they've made of English in the chapter names ;-)
Examples:
Chapter 5 - Angad Hits Whole-Seller
Chapter 9 - Baldev decides to "trend" Gaurav :D
Chapter 11 - Gaurav leave the Baldev and coaching
Also at some places the subtitles are so desi -- "World Heavyweight Joint!" Hahaha!!

Video aspect ratio -- not that bad with close to 2.30:1 (Shemaroo tend to 2.20 everything -- how much did they do on Apne?)

But then, all in all -- quite good.

Runtime: NTSC - 02:47:40 (How much is Shemaroo runtime?)

Rana bhai -- I would love to collect the 2-disc Moser Baer and the Shemaroo 2-disc release... any help would be appreciated :-)

it looks better than shemaroo, except squish, that might be to do with SS. might be pal [EDIT: fixed AR - Ali]

Sure, these two shots look good. But, other SS adjoining these shots and most of the DVD is good but not as good. Most likely, still better than Shemaroo ?? Colors are very good but authoring is Film to PAL to NTSC field averaged. If I remember correctly, zoran did say that these shots are from download ?? I got to these exact shots on M B DVD, got very close to these shots quality but not exactly the same quality (using Force weave didn't give combing in these two shots; as we obviusly know, Force weave shots with no combing are sharper than Force BOB shots). The zoran posted SS may be enhanced at some stage ??
Also, check MB shots posted by Newdeep

I'll rent the Shemaroo version and compare both PQs side by side.

Recall, in the past many SS taken from DIVX copy of orig DVD looked better than DVD SSs. I still don't know why or how a compressed copy turns up better looking than orig ??

BTW, did you look at other Moser Baer Apne SSs that Newdeep has posted (click) ?? You'll see that all those shots are not as good as these two selective shots.

I did see those and ofcourse you could easy see a pal to ntsc kinda transfer! btw these SS were claimed to be from dvd9, possibly deinterlaced mode, not forceweave!

Just picked up Shemaroo Apne on Rental.
Run Time is 2 hr 55 min.
Plus, the extras disc has deleted scenes.

PQ: My preliminary impression is in favour of Moser Baer.
