1) Is Mission Kashmir (the film itself) any good?
2) Does Sony plan to release it theatrically like they are doing with Lagaan?

The film was one of the best films of the year 2000 and is definately far better than the mushy crap 'Mohabattein' from the same year.
I am quite sure Sony has no plans to re-release Mission Kashmir to the theaters.

I'll reconfirm Sanjay's valuable opinion, MK was way better than Mohabtaen..mush!! but YRF lobby is such a force in itself that MOHABTAEN had to bev a WINNER at Filmfare etc!! I was disappointed watching it for 3 1/2 hr, only grace was Aishwarya's beauty in one song! even I like AB better in EK RISHTA!!
So MK is a VERY GOOD FILM! INDEED! Music is so fresh and so authentic to the film!! SEL!! before DCH! but MOhabtaen was HIGHLY INSPIRED YRFISH mushy music album!

My dvd did not make here yet! was shipped!I am happy with Eng sound track, even I prefer Jackie's "mera bach" dialogues by all means in original language, U will never get that feel and impact in any other language IMHO!

I dont think, MK will ever see a MAINSTREAM RELEASE by CT!
does not make sense!

So BUY and ENJOY the GOOD FILM on GOOD BARE BONE dvd by CT!! Cheers R2 ka Dragun bhaii!!

Sanjay,

MK isn't 'good', but it is F***ing Awesome!!!! Probably the best movie to come out of India in the past 10 years. The direction is superb. The cinematography is nothing short of breathtaking. The acting is brilliant. The action is very well handled, but best of all, watch out for all the connatations. This in someways also proved a weakness of the movie, as most people in India had a difficult time understanding the true message of MK. This is more than just merely an action flick - so makesure you appreciate the quality, because you certainly wont be seeing anything like it for a looooooooooooong time, judging by all the crap coming out of India recently.

Couldnt agree more with u guys........ it is a bloody awesome movie...... i was in delhi.. me and my mom saw MK first and then Mohabeetein in the same week..... but even my mom, who is a big fan of yrf mushy romances preferred MK over the long and boring Mohabeetein..... and in the theatre the PVR anupam the whole theatre was silent when MK was on but Mohabetein peoples cell phones were ringing and they were all restlessly entering and leaving the hall..... pity though this scene was not india-wide otherwise MK would be a bigger hit.....

MK is a top movie, which features prehaps one of Indian cinema best techincal work since Ratnam's Bombay. Cheak out the excellent opening cinematography and the massacre scene. It showcases Kashmir's surroundings and highlights the violence.

Editing is quite stunning during both scenes. It also features prehaps one of Sanjay Dutt's best performances after Khalnayak, Naam & Vaastav and Jackie Shoff also excels as the villian!

The film only has some minor flaws with some parts of the screenplay (which is avoidable as you'd be immensed in the film), and Hrithik's dramatic performance was quite laughable in places. That aside the film is definatly worth seeing on cinema (if re-released) and buying on DVD!

:baaa: to all these comments, MK is one of the best there is. One of the very few Indian movies that is tightly plot focused throughout and that climax is something else. Un-missable.

While Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s classic ‘1942 A love story’ being one of the best scripted and executed film’s of Indian film history, his Mission Kashmir is not far behind as it is boosted with powerful story, narration and stunning visuals and is a must own movie on DVD for any Indian movie lover.
