It's Boom time for Big B

Times Of India:

MUMBAI: The suspense about who will star in Farhan Akhtar's and Kaizad Gustad's next venture is finally over.

It is none other than Amitabh Bachchan.

Gustad, whose last film Bombay Boys had become a cult success, had announced his new film Boom, would have three supermodels -- played by Madhu Sapre, Katrina Kazi and litterateur Salman Rushdie's friend Padma Lakshmi -- get embroiled with three underworld dons.

While actors Gulshan Grover and Jackie Shroff had announced that they would be donning the identities of Medium Miyan and Abdul 50/50 in Boom, the identity of the third star to play the most prominent don was under wraps, till the Big B himself said, he would be playing the mysterious Bade Miyan.

"I'm doing Kaizad's film. I play an underworld don," Amitabh said, before leaving for the film's shooting in Dubai on Friday. "It's a very tongue-in-cheek film."

Discussing various other upcoming projects, Amitabh states he is also working with Akhtar. "I've also signed Farhan Akhtar's next film. It starts some time in 2003. It's a war film. I play an Armyman."

Akhtar, who made a splash with his debut film Dil Chahta Hai, has been keeping quiet about his next project, even as the industry and media reports have been abuzz with stories that his next film would star either Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan or Shah Rukh Khan.

The list of directors Amitabh is working with or considering doing has several young ones, who have made a name for themselves by taking risks and breaking away from the typical Bollywood song-and-dance routine.

Two such names are Nagesh Kukunoor, who made it big with Hyderabad Blues and Bollywood Calling, and 16 December director Mani Shankar.

Amitabh says: "I've met Nagesh. He came to me about a role, said he'd send me a script."

With Gustad and Kukunoor inching into Big B's territory, it seems as though Amitabh is about to reinvent himself yet again after resurrecting his career with a hit game show and the film Mohabbatein in 2000.

As for agreeing to play hijacker in a film being produced by Sanjeev Karambelkar, who also financed the flop Lal Salaam, he says: "I haven't met anyone of that name, nor have I signed any film as a hijacker.

"But I'm doing the 16 December director Mani Shankar's film for IDreams. It has me with Akshay Kumar. In fact Akshay is also doing a film for my company AB Corp, which will also star Sanjay Dutt and be directed by my film Aankhen director Vipul A Shah."

Amitabh is also working on Vikram Bhatt's Aitbaar. "But I haven't started shooting for it as yet. Besides Mani Shankar's film, I also have B R Chopra's son Ravi's film Baagbaan, and Honey Irani's film that starts in July."

Amitabh's last release Aankhen featured him in negative role. "The film has done very well in Mumbai and overseas," he says.

This week releases an out-and-out situational comedy starring him called Hum Kissise Kum Nahin about which he says: "It's a typical David Dhawan film. Quite funny."

--- ok :doze:

I was simply asking a question, was my observation of the roles he is taking wrong? Is it because of his "legacy" that everyone likes him!??! I am talking about NOW of course, not 1970 when he was ruling Bollywood with the stars of todays parents and grandparents.

One can say that those are the only kind of roles he is being offered, but he is the one signing the same roles over and over, where is his scope of his acting now!? One can look forward to him playing a young guys grandparents in the next film, and of course the loveable "Underworld Don" :wot:

Well I am real big fan of Farhan Akhtar and Kaizad Gustad and am thrilled about their next film. As for AB I do not hate him like Faddy hates SRK but I am not exactly his biggest fan either. Ahem...just being honest no offence to AB fans
