I recently bought a DVD of KNPH as a gift for a friend. I expected the DEI 'collectors edition' (Which is the one I personally own) but what came in the mail was KNPH put out by a company called, Bollywood Entertainment. It has the exact same packaging as the DEI version on the outside (except with a Bollywood Entertainment logo instead of DEI). I ventured to my local Indian DVD stores and they are selling the Bollywood Entertainment version of KNPH also and the DEI version is no where in sight. I was wondering if this is a pirate or have the rights to KNPH been transfered to Bollywood Entertainment.
Unfortunately the picture quality on the Bollywood Entetainment version of KNPH is not as good as the DEI version. The Bollywood Entertainment version is blocky and over saturated over the whole color range. So I just wanted to warn ppl that this inferior version of KNPH is on the market and if they are going to buy KNPH online to make sure it is the DEI version and not the Bollywood Entertainment one. :ffs:

So after having read some posts in the forum I assume that Bollywood Entertainment is the new name for DEI? (BEI?) Or are Bollywood Entertainment and BEI two different companies? If Bollywood Entertainment and BEI are the same then a possible reassesment of the official KNPH DVD may be in order.

I think they are trying to hard to make money off of a hit film. Just how many DVD's has this stupid movie had? 25? 50? Because this seems like the type of movie that was in the pirate circuit for a long time, then more DVD's with more extras just keep pouring in, even after 3 years!

DEI had to close down for a while because of some lawsuit against them for pressing Eros-DEI titles (One of the pandits here should correct me if that is wrong). They recently came back as BEI and have re-released some of the old DEI titles with a BEI label. KNPH was originally released by DEI as 1 disc, then as a 2 disc set. Those are the only official releases of the film. The BEI version is the same as one of these, probably the 2 disc one. So BEI isn't trying to rip us off.

You are absolutely right Arsh.

The first issue came as a single disc and was supposed to be the first Anamorphic Indian DVD (Intention must have been that a Super Hit movie launches Indian Anamorphic DVDs: Actually it was the 3rd as the release of KNPH DVD got postponed/ delayed by a couple of weeks). Jaaneman Jaaneman song was added to the theatrical versions, about the same time or a week or two later (so, its not in the single DVD version).

A few months later DEI released the 2 Disc version. It had the added Jaaneman Jaaneman song in the main feature, as well as, in the extras disc. I think all the extras were still the same, but the second disc was used for them. I never compared if the bit rate of the main feature went up because of the additional disc space that became avail, for the main feature, as a result. Extras, definitely had a better pic in the 2 Disc version. I am not sure, whether coverage of Filmfare awards (aprox 20 min) for the film and Rakesh Roshan's performances at the awards were in the single disc version.

Byronicman, is the BEI version the single disc version? If so, it probably has a lower bitrate than the 2-disc DEI version, which could explain the blockiness.
